METS - Solid team. Great offense, killer bullpen, decent combination of young arms and veterans in the starting rotation and a balls to the wall manager to go hand-in-hand with one of the smartest GMs in baseball.

YANKEES - Stockpiled on offense, although losing Sheffield's bat hurts, because the lineup is very, very lefty-dominant. Without signing Clemens the pitching rotation is still suspect. Middle rotation mediocre at best, but if it gets to Mariano, it's over. Great manager and GM.

RED SOX - If JD Drew signs, the offense is electric with tons of potential to light up the scoreboard in Beantown. Front-loaded pitching rotation. Promising bullpen, but plenty of spill-over from the extra-armed rotation castoffs. No set closer big question mark! If the team signs Clemens Papelbon may return to the CL role and that's scary. Francona is a good player's manager and the ownership is clearly committed to winning.

DODGERS - Probably the longest shot of all my predictions but I like the Dodgers chances. They have a pretty solid front-line rotation with Schmidt, Penny and Lowe leading the charge and a crop of rookies. An electric young bullpen. A burgeoning offense combining crafty veterans and young guns on the way up who will benefit from playing with guys like Nomar, Kent and Furcal.

TIGERS - The Tigers will field what is basically the same team that got slaughtered in the World Series last October. The difference is that the team has added a serious impact bat in the form of Gary Sheffield. He is also a great veteran presence for a relatively young ballclub. One may expect a slight regression from last season, but this will still be one solid ballclub.

Okay, are you smoking crack? The Cubs have no chance, neither do the Devil Rays or Giants. The top 5 most likely teams to win the world series are: 1 - New York Mets 2 - Boston Red Sox 3 - New York Yankees 4 - Detroit Tigers 5 - Minnesota Twins

Believe it or not the Cubs could be serious contenders for the first time since 2003. The recent acquisition of Alfonso Soriano gives the club speed, and some pop to back up Aramis and Derrek, not to mention Ted Lilly, who can be a very reliable third or fourth starter, and Cesar Izturis could come in handy at short.

The Mets are also capable of going all the way. Carlos Beltran is one of the best all-around players in the game today. He can field, hit for power, hit for average, and he has above average speed. With one of the best infields in the MLB (Valentin, Reyes, Wright, and Delgado) if they get a good starting rotation they might win their third.

The Yankees as always. When they got Andy Pettite it showed they wanted to improve on their horrible pitching rotation from last year. Pavano may be able to pitch, don't hold your breath though, and they have the greatest closer of all time in Rivera.

The Tigers are also the team to beat, they still have the best pitching staff in the league with Rogers, Verlander, Bonderman, Jones, Zumaya, and Rodney to name a few. Sean Casey is a great first-baseman who is an average fielder but a great hitter. Placido proved to be a great addition to the team last year, and Brandon Inge had his breakout year. Craig Monroe and Curtis Granderson were also big contributors to last years team. Throw in a good hitter (Maggs) and statistically the best catcher to ever live (I'd say Pudge is better Bench, I'm ready for the flaming), and you've got a fantastic team.

Finally the Minnesota Twins, they have the reigning AL MVP, the reigning MLB batting champ, the reigning Triple Crown winner, and one of the best center fielders in the game. They're just a great all-around team capable of winning the Series.

I'm going to be unbiased and use only 29 choices for these five spots. I think the Cubs have a realistic chance this year, but because they are my team I'll pick five others.

Cardinals...won it last year. La Russa is very smart. I think the team on paper right now is not as good as it was last season. But even with Rolen and Edmonds having an oft-injured year last season, Pujols and Carpenter proved they could carry a team into and through October.

Red Sox....added Matsuzaka to an already stacked rotation. Beckett, Schilling, Matsuzaka, Papelbon, Lester, Piniero, Wakefield, and Matt Clement are all options in their loaded rotation. Whether the JD drew works out or not the lineup will d]still be stacked. Manny, Ortiz, and Drew are a very solid middle of the lineup and you would still have Wily Mo available on the bench.

Tigers....and I'm not just saying this because you said you liked them. Verlander, Bonderman, Rodney, and flame throwing Joel Zumaya have some experience under their belts and are now a force to be reconed with in the American League. They upgraded the lineup with the addition of Gary Sheffield and they still have veteran Kenny Rogers heading the rotation.

Yankees- Veteran group. Outside of Wang and Igawa, a very veteran rotation. Bringing back Petite and trading Johnson were both great moves. Solid lineup, losing Sheffield shouldn't hurt too much...Matsui will be back hopefully for a full season and A-Rod could return to his MVP form

San Francisco- Longshot. Added Zito to a potentially good pitching staff. New manager....they've got a chance.

New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox.

Congrats on the Tigers having a great year in '06, I'm a Cardinals fan, please don't hate me. I know what it feels like to lose in a World Series.

Yankees. They always have a chance due to their all star lineup. Andy Pettite should help also.
Tigers. They have the pitching and with the addition of Sheffield they could be tough to handle.
Twins. If Liriano gets healthy quickly and Santana still rocks they could be a surprise in the AL. Mauer and Morneau have to be good again.
Mets. They still need a stud pitcher but anything could happen. Their lineup is a good as the get and they can close a game.
Cubbies. Add Soriano to any team and it will be good. The pitching is a question mark but could be as good as any in MLB if healthy. Weak division helps too.
