I dunno what to do, it's awful.

Every now and again, the colours change and the screen turns purple. It's not a joke, it's for real. Any Advice?

Replace your monitor. It is going bad.

Check your cables. This can be caused by a loose cable to your monitor. Check both ends and make sure there aren't any bent or broken pins. If there are any bent pins you can sometimes bend them back with a pair of needle nose pliers.

If the cable seems fine, your monitor or video card may be on it's way out.

Excessive dust buildup inside a monitor can cause monitors to behave this way. CAUTION: Monitors can store dangerous voltages even after being unplugged for an extended period of time (Especially with older CRT types). It is not recommended that you attempt to open a monitor up and examine it.

If you believe the monitor is the problem, plug it into another computer for several hours. Disable any screen savers that would put it in a sleep or low power mode. Then see if the symptoms persist. This will give you a good idea if the monitor is going bad.

this could be a fault with the monitor itself, or a strong magnetic force near it like, a mobile phone microwave powerfull hi-fi etc.. or acces point for wireless.
but if its none of these there is not a great deal u can do to fix it since the cost of repair might be the same as getting a new monitor.

If you have a CRT monitor, it should have a Degauss option either through a master reset, or through a Button.
If its an LCD, same or similar options are available, however it may be a driver issue, or proximity to a Microwave will do it
