my friend has a father who is very very depressed and defensive. His wife passed away unexpectedly about 4-5 years ago and every year he just gets worse (the sadness). He's such a kind man and has a lot of personality but does not have anyone else in his life other than his pets to talk to. What advice can I give to help him be happy? I just want to hear that he is doing well and is happy in his life...

you should get him out of the house and introduce him to some new people. there has got to be a social group for singles his age in your area. he will feel much better when he's around other people.

There are different groups that are out there that help you deal with grief, get him in touch with one of those. I checked the internet and there are so many listed by state that I know that there is one that is close to him.

find a social group for him to join...depending on where he lives, the community center might have game clubs, hiking groups, etc...don't try and find him another life partner, but it's good to be looking out.
