No. There are many syndromes associated with alcohol consumption while pregnant. Some people say it's okay to have a glass of wine occasionally, but I wouldn't take the chance. Here's an article on a study done in 2004.

Many people know about the dangers of prenatal alcohol exposure, particularly the damaging effects that heavy drinking can cause to a child's cognitive development. A study published in the March 2004 issue of Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research has found that even light to moderate drinking during pregnancy may interfere with learning and memory during adolescence.
"We have known for a long time that drinking heavily during pregnancy could lead to major impairments in growth, behavior, and cognitive function in children," said Jennifer Willford, assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and the study's first author. "This paper clearly shows that even small amounts of alcohol during pregnancy can have a significant impact on child development."

Since you are asking this question you pretty much know the answer is NO.

Alot of people say that drinking a glass of wine is okay to calm your nerves as I had heard but a new study shows that any alcohol consumption during pregnancy be it wine, beer, liquor poses a risk to you and the baby.

To be on the safe side I would advise against it but if you have questions don't be afraid to ask your doctor or look it up.

I think a little every once in a while might be ok, but to be safe, don't do it. You should consult your dr about it. I've heard that some women insist on one glass of wine a day and also insist it's good for the baby. But again, you should consult your dr.

If you drink too much the baby can be addicted to the alcohol when born and also have fetal alcohol syndrome that in many cases, is worse than a drug addicted baby. Do a search for FAS and read what the facts are. It's certainly not worth it to me!!

Good luck.

After 3-4 months, you can ONCE IN A WHILE! Once a week glass of wine or a bottle of beer won't hurt the baby.
I have three kids and sometimes I felt like I really want to relax and have a nice evening with my hubby, so I did and all of three kids were born healthy.
There is no problem with that as long as you're not an alcoholic and don't have any pregnancy complications or particular health problems.
BTW, there is very light wine Moscato de Asti - it's 5% alcohol, it tastes like juice but makes you feel good. Try it. I call this wine - "wine for pregnant women and nursing mothers" (-:

Enjoy your wine (or beer).
Good luck.

You are not supposed to drink alcohol while pregnant, it could be passed to the baby. At the end of pregnancy I heard it was safe to have a glass of wine but only 1 glass.

Yes, in very limited quantities.

"The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists recently conducted a large study including 400,000 American women, all of whom had consumed alcohol during pregnancy. Not a single case of fetal alcohol syndrome occurred and no adverse effects on children were found when consumption was under 8.5 drinks per week. 3

A recent review of research studies found that fetal alcohol syndrome only occurs among alcoholics. The evidence is clear that there is no apparent risk to a child when the pregnant woman consumes no more than one drink per day. 4

A study of moderate drinking during pregnancy found no negative effects. The researchers suggested that one drink per day provides a significant margin of safety, although they did not encourage drinking during pregnancy. 5"

"It seems, however, as if the American government, medical authorities and media have not been telling American women the entire truth. Although the official message is "don't drink at all during pregnancy", a great deal of recent research and a re-examination of the alcohol-pregnancy issue show that there is no conclusive evidence to demonstrate that moderate drinking during pregnancy can harm the fetus...

Lipp and Whitten, whose "To Your Health" was published in 1995, are among an increasing number of doctors and researchers who feel that pregnant women have no reason to fear drinking a glass of wine every day. As revealed by contributing editor Thomas Matthews in the August 31, 1994 issue of the "Wine Spectator" magazine which was devoted largely to this controversy, "there is even new research that shows that moderate drinking during pregnancy may actually help the development of the child after birth." No, it is not safe. Please dont.
I know you're probably stressed and would LOVE one to help calm your nerves a little, but you shouldnt.

This is what I would do..
Buy the alcohol free stuff, the 'near beer' or dealcoholized cocktails. As well, there is nothing wrong with making yourself 'virgin' drinks as you normally would have, go ahead, mix up a Cosmo in your fave martini glass with no booze, just juice and drop a cherry in it too. You might feel like you're having one and that might help satisfy the little nagging in your brain :)

Its only 9 months... do it for your little one.
Good luck.

It is highly NOT recommended. I drank before I got pregnant and it was so easy to quit because I wanted my baby to be healthy. Same with smoking...It was all so easy to quit. Alcohol affects the babys nervous system and develpment. People who drink while pregnant have more of a chance of fetal alcohol syndrome.
Take a look at this website and then you decide on whether or not it is a good idea. It is there for a reason!

This is up for debate. Some drs believe a little alcohol is ok and some believe you shouldn't have any at all. There are no studies to prove or disprove either theory but all experts agree that it is better safe than sorry and all pregnant women should abstain from alcohol. Drinking during pregnancy leads to Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

No, you cannot drink alcohol while you're pregnant! Are you some sort of woman who's not in her right damn mind?!?! NO! That could harm the potential baby! Haven't you read the surgeon's label thingies on the back of the beer bottles/cans?
