40. My grocery store came up with a dumbass policy to card EVERYONE for cigarette, lighter and booze purchase. Yes yes yes, I know it's because the checkers get crap from people; this way they can say "hey, we have to card everyone."

Well, they actually carded a 90 year old man. It made the newspaper. It didn't cause them to stop asking, but the last few times I've been there they haven't bothered. I was really starting to get annoyed.

Mostly just because I'd have to haul my license out.

Maybe I should add - I know there's no way in hell they think I'm under 21. The new policy is to card anyone who appears to be under ___ - and that age varies from place to place. Sometimes it's 40, sometimes 30, sometimes 25. I don't think there's any reason to be flattered anymore!

As someone who has had to card a great number of people, I have found that mostly those who get upset are the under 30 crowd. This is because although the comedy club I worked at had a "card everyone policy" if a 60 year old didn't have ID, we would end up serving them anyway. However a 24 year old without ID won't get served. Some older people were annoyed about having to drag their licenses out, but most took it calmly when myself and other employees thanked them for their cooperation and explained the "card everyone" rule. However I had several people in their twenties throw fits when I refused to sell them cigarettes or alcohol because they didn't have ID. I don't know if they felt "insulted" or if they were just frustrated because they couldn't get what they wanted even though they were legally old enough. As someone who looks young, I understand the frustration, however I also understand that the law requires carding and don't feel insulted when someone follows the law. And I once carded a 87 year old man. He thought it was quite funny and was very gracious.

Ummm im not sure if I would get insulted because its more of a compliment. At least for women it is, since women tend to feel better when told they look young, and men are more insulted since they want to look masculine.

I actuall find it insulting now,
I'm WELL past highschool, and a bartender actuall called the police on me thinking I had a fake ID. He was definately embarassed when the police man told him my real age. He thought i was 15.

Tha is quite insulting. I kbnow I'll enjoy it when I'm older.
But it really hurts me when my boyfriend gets hassled for "cradle robbing" when he's actually only a year older thatn me. It makes me feel sad.

Hmmm, it seems annoying at 25 but after 30ish it starts to be complimentary. I have a bunch of gray and white in my goatee, but I still get carded occasionally in the grocery store when I buy beer or wine.

I wouldnt feel insulted..one they are doing their job. I dont know about you, but here they have to card you if you look under 25. Two to me, thats flattering. Im 34 and if someone thinks that i look under 25 i go home and look inthe mirror and start flexing, drinking water, doing push ups etc...lol

I agree. Most women would LOVE it over the age of 30. At 23 or so its annoying because you feel SOOOO mature.

30!!!! You are now a crusty assed adult and no one cries for you anymore....who needs carding????

LOL!

I don't find it an insult, I find it comical.

Especially, when it's a 20 year old carding me a 50 year old!
