The fan would run on high speed sometimes when I would listen to music on Windows Media Player. But, now it runs on high speed most of the time. It is annoying and I am afraid something is wrong. What can I do?

Thanks

First quick fix, unplug the computer, ground yourself by touching the metal case, then get some canned air and blow all the dust out of the computer, paying attention to your fans and fan blades. Dust on the fan blades can cause them to go out of balance and vibrate. If that doesn't work, check where the fan is plugged in on the mobo. There may be more than one place to plug the CPU fan in at. If not, you may need an after market CPU fan and replace the CPU fan with a better fan (most after market CPU fans are better than the stock CPU fans). You will also need some thermal grease when you replace the CPU fan, get "Arctic Silver" brand thermal grease, it helps further reduce heat from the CPU.

Push Ctrl+Alt+Del and select task manager to see what is your performance. If you see more than a 10-20 percent CPU usage go to the processes tab and sort by the CPU column to see what is taking up your CPU (besides the system idle processes which are doing nothing). This process is what is making you fan come on. Windows media player should make your fan come on because it is parsing some serious media file that takes up cpu time.

Hope that helps
