Cause it's all a popularity contest. I think it's fixed, the winner, or at least the finalist, were chosen in advance to be a man and a woman. If you think about it, all the finalist have had at least a woman in it. Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Katherine McPhee. It doesn't really matter anyways, the top 6-10 are gonna get record deals anyways.

If that were true then why the heck did Taylor Hicks win last year? The voting itself has more to do with where a contestant is from and how big a fan base he/she has. The outcome of the competition doesn't impact whether a person is going to end up famous or not. Just look at Kelly Pickler, Chris Daughtry, and the girt who was in the movie DreamGirls. None of them won and they are all doing fantastic.

Because the show lets American's vote on who they want to be the next "American Idol". This lets millions of idiots with nothing better to do with their time than call an 800 number and vote for no-talent clowns. Its not like music executives from across the nation are trying to call and vote for who they want to win the show. Just a bunch of average, stupid Americans who probably can't name the first five presidents of the United States, but can name the five people who have won American Idol.

I can agree.
The season that Carrie Underwood was on they actually got the best singer. That was the year that Bo Bice was on too and even now he does'nt have all the fame that I thought he would and I really like his music.
Now either of the years that fantasia or taylor hicks won was a joke. My picks those years were voted off early. I cant stand the sound of fantasias voice and I cant stand to watch Taylor sing.

I agree. American Idol is a competition for America's next Idol. They must have the voice, the looks AND the personality that young America loves. It's not just a singing competition.

I agree with you. I like the show a lot but it's not about singing as the judges like to say it is. If it were truly about singing talent then there would be a bigger variety of contestants. There'd be pretty ones and ugly ones, skinny ones and fat ones, ones with pimples & braces etc.

Not just what you mentioned.
But these Idol contests have specific mobile-phone companies that sponsor them. If your mobile isn't of that company; you can't text your vote in favour of the one you want to win. You would have to wait to be patched through personally...If you get through.
Which sucks profusely.

Well many of the winners are good singers. But the show is also about charisma and the singing, just look at clay aiken. He only one because he changed his apearance.

The teeny bobbers vote for the "OMG-HE'S SO CUTE" factor.
Not the talented ones.
I've quit watching.
