They make those feminine things with wings and they dont fly. I think it's all about business and marketing which is run mostly by men trying to make a profit by telling women that they smell. Those odor-blockers? It's just like covering one bad smell with another. Like trying to cover up the funk of one's smelly body with cheap perfume.

For the same reason they make tampons at all, for the same reason they bleach tampons with chemicals just to make them whiter, for the same reason they make rustle-proof pad wrappers, for the same reason they make pads with 'feminine wipes' and the same reason they make 'feminine washes' – purely to make women feel bad about their periods.
It's a marketing ploy, by playing on outstanding menstrual taboos – menstruation being embarrassing, inconvenient, dirty and smelly – they imply their products are a necessity for women, when in fact they are not. If women are constantly taught through advertising of such products that they smell, and so need scented tampons to prevent the smell, then women think they do in fact need those products and buy them.
It's been going on for decades, even to the point where women's health and lives are risked – chlorine gas bleaching was used in the 1990's and chemicals still used now purely to whiten tampons and pads to play on the idea that menstruation is dirty, despite the fact those chemicals are bad for vaginal health and even general health.
Tampons themselves are bad for vaginal health, but because women are encouraged to think menstruation is embarrassing and so not to talk or think about it, most women don't realise what should be common sense – plugging up your vagina with cotton/rayon soaked in chemicals and perfume is not hygienic or safe.
Scented tampons are unnecessary as menstrual blood only smells when it leaves the body, scented tampons are in fact more likely to make women smell bad as the chemicals within the tampons will affect vaginal pH, which in turn affects normal vaginal pH leading to an imbalance of 'good' and 'bad' bacteria within the vagina.
Thus why so many women are switching to safer options like organic tampons, sponge tampons, cloth pads, padded panties, free-flow methods, menstrual cups and softcups, to name a few. It's a VERY BIG ISSUE.

I can't use them anyway. Besides, Aunt Flo isn't supposed to smell. If it smells good or bad, there is definitely a problem.

Deodourised tampons (Charlies) can give you a yeast infection. I know. Use a bit of baking soda on a mini-pad when using a tampon; that should do the trick.

haha no idea.. better question why do they have to show the commercials for them on TV non-stop? I'm glad that they have something for woman since it's a serious issue, but I don't want to have to learn about them non-stop!
