I am 38 weeks 5 days pregnant with my second child. A week ago I was 3 cm dilated. I have persistant back pain in my lower back today that is not going away at all. Could I be in labor or could I have over done in with cleaning my house this weekend?

I have a Dr. appointment this afternoon, where I am very tempted to beg her to induce me! The only other signs that I am having are my breasts are very tender, and I believe I lost my plug over the weekend.

Just an update... I went to the Dr. I'm only 3.5cm dilated now, and the baby is moving back up instead of dropping more. She also turned and her face is facing my back which is causing the back pain. :o( Thanks for the comments! She also said if I don't go into labor by Friday, that she might induce me then!

Persistant back pain in the last few weeks of pregnancy could indicate that the baby is positioned face-forward in the birth canal, as opposed to the regular face-back position. You might find you labor for quite a while with no real progress and ultimately end up with a c-section or a forceps assisted birth.
My neighbor had exactly your symptoms for her final 2 weeks of pregnancy and her little boy was a forceps delivery just 8 days ago. Everyone is fine and healthy!
Good Luck !

It could be either of the two. Are you experiencing any other symptoms of labor? Im 40 weeks pregnant and have had a dull back ache for about three weeks now. I keep hoping its labor but I think its just pain from a ruptured disk I had a few months ago. I guess we'll both have to wait and see! Good luck!

Did your bag broke? If it did better head to the hospital. Back pain radiating from your tummy will be a sign of true labor pain. But if the pain is just at the back and is really not that painful just lie back and lift your legs up on pillows. But it is still better to get medical attention since you are almost due and can deliver any time

MAYBE all he cleaning over the weekend caused the back pain, which is actually labor! It could happen. I would call the dr. If you were 3cm a week ago, it could certainly be labor.

Good luck!!!

Yes you could be in labor. I felt everything in my back during early labor. The fact that you have over done your house cleaning is a sign that you are nesting. You could go to the hospital now to be sure. If its too early and your not contracting they will send you home.

Could be either one, I know that my back has hurt throughout my whole pregnancy. I can't vacumm or clean the tub, and when I do I am in a lot of pain. If you really want to be sure, call your doctor and make an appointment to be examained. That is the only way to tell for sure. Godd Luck hope all goes well.

Lower back pain is common from the way you stand when full term, and the weight of the uterus.

I have had constant back pain since i got pregnant. Like right now. still. hasnt stopped. Iam about to take some tylenol and beg someone for a back rub.

Maybe both... I would wait it out at home as long as possible... Get off your feet, although it is relatively safe for the baby to come you are NOT full term.. Most pregnancies with prior birth average 40 weeks 3 days. Try to rest. If your water breaks then go to the hospital! Congrats early!

It could be either. But if it is traveling to your front it is probably labor. Also.. If it comes and goes I would call the doctor. (by comes and goes it can come and go quickly.) My doctor made me get checked out for that. Good luck

real contractions usually start off in the back and work there way around to the lower stomach.
from my personal experience i was in labor and didn't even know it, i thought my back was just sore, but if you did clean the house yours might be sore, i would just pay attention if it is staying in the back or working its way around at all. (could be either)
