A nurse practitioner is just like a doctor but they have not gotten their licence to be a "doctor" yet. They can do STD tests but will probably send it off. You will nto need to call ahead. One thing they do not do is X-Rays on site and things like that. They can refer you to where you need to go and this usually does not incur another deductible. I personally prefer a nurse practitioner because they are usually still in school and are up to date on the best things out there and also having to stay in the books, unlike doctors who learn it once and then take no more schooling for the most part. So yes, he/she will know what they are doing. Don't be scared.

A nurse practitioner gets to do all the physical exams that a doc does, like drawing blood, doing pap smears etc. You need to ask them to do an STD check for other stuff while they are doing your usual pap smear (it usualy involves an extra swab or two, and they might take a blood sample after you're done.)

Nurse practitioner is ALMOST like a regular family practice provider. The only thing that they cant do is to write prescriptions for controlled substances, like heavy duty narcotics, Zanax, Adderall & things like that. And yes, they should be able to do the STD testing as well.

she would kno what she is doing, but the gynocologists is suppose to do that. you dont need to tell them to check for std's...they should see it if it is present. you could tell them when you are getting the pap smear done.
