Living? Sure, I Iive in Abu Dhabi, the most expensive place in UAE (regarding Gulf News) and live here is just great. Good employment package, never ending sunshine, great social life etc.
Retiring? No, you have to leave the UAE when you retire unless you buy some property. For the price of a 2 bedroom apartment I can buy a nice house in the USA.

But I always would like to come back for a visit and I will miss life in the UAE. I know that already.

Life in Dubai is very expensive these days. It's a wonderful place to live, with a lot to offer, but the heat is relentless in summer, and the humidity is draining. Prices are creeping ever higher for rentals, purchasing, and day-to-day living expenses. Driving there is a tital nightmare too.

I think Dubai was a better place ten years ago when it was not quite so busy. These days it seems pretty much like a huge buiding site, there is so much development going on. If you DO rent or buy an apartment, make absolutely certain that they aren't going to build another tower block right next door and spoil your views. I have seen this so many times.

That said, I do believe to buy there would be a good investment. And retiring there is a nice option as Dubai is located in a good place from which to travel to other interesting countries. Many people are now choosing Dubai as a retirement option.

Its good to live in Dubai but that can be possible only if you have a good source of income to support your self..you cant retire here the only way is to buy a house from Emaar and get a visa after you retire..
