Hi Daniel,
I agree in physical terms, that mass & energy within our universe are finite, so no free energy or mass floating around.
However, stick 5000 FF on the table at Monico, and you have a free week in the hotel.
Wait for three evens, three reds, three lows in a row, or vice versa, bet your plastic on the opposite, and it is something subsantial for nothing, so I found.
I am not a gambler, and would not reccomend it in general practice, but a free hotel & meals for a week or so defies the laws or universal physics !
There is shoplifting I suppose, among the lowly of the creeds, but collecting mushrooms, nuts, & fishing for a meal. Those are free, and perfectly natural activities.
Try seaweed, cockles & mussels, that damn squirel that I caught many years ago, and put it in a nice pie with my grandmother in charge on the range.
The duck that landed in a pot.
The free meal at the Playboy club in Mayfair, as an apprentice sales bod.
I have yet to produce gold out of kitchen roll, but working on the project.
Cheers,
Bob.

I think it has something to do with the fact that most things in the world come at a cost and the things that don't cost us anything are diminishing and thus this phenomenon of not being able to get something for nothing is also diminishing.

In my opinion the most common thing we enjoy free of cost (note my usage of cost - not price) is air which has oxygen in it for us to breathe. However, as is the diminishing nature of "free goods", we may even have to pay for the purity of the air we breathe, sometime in the future. Quite similar to the way we now have to pay to enjoy clean beaches, something that you could get for free in those erstwhile generations gone by.

There is an organisation in the UK, run by the government it is called The Department of Health and Social Security, from what I understand, they give away lots of free money and goods.

Well, you see...it's like my dad used to tell me...

"I remember when I could get a Pepsi and candy bar for just a dime."

Well, you still can, but the people watching the surveillance cameras don't appreciate it.

it just doesn't work that way. what you get will have some worth, so you have to give something worth in exchange to something of another worth.
