well 20 minutes of any kind of aerobic excercise is a good balance. Even if you just do it 3 times a week. The excercise bike is great for the lower body but does not do much for the upper. The advantage is you do not have to go outside to do it and you can watch tv while you do it. The other advantage is you can do it at whatever pace you decide and move up from there. They even have classes just for the excercise bike at local YMCA'S and other gyms. I would mix using the excercise bike with weights. Do weights and rotate bike taking off one day of the week without any excercise. Unless of course you are wanting to become a body builder then that is a whole other workout routine. Good Luck.

Advantages of exercise bikes...well to think about it this way instead of riding a bike outside you can just sit at home and ride this exercise bike all year round in the comfort of your own home. It is actually very good for loosing weight, I have seen people loose so much on the bikes. The ones that recline are actually really good, and you can go at your own pace, no stress! Start maybe for 20 minutes, and then increase maybe 5 minutes more each week, whatever you think is best for your body though. I mean depending on how you feel, but do challenge yourself adding 5-10 minutes each week onto your routine.
Good health results come from eating properly, fruits, veggies, not too much bread, all in moderation, and exercise regularly, just not too close to bed time :)
Good luck!!!

Exercise bikes are great for cardiovascular fitness and toning/building your thighs and also give your knees a break. The exercise bike is also a great leg builder. Simply add more resistance to stimulate more muscle growth.
A recumbent exercise bike is more ergonomically correct than a traditional upright exercise bike and it’s an effective way to improve aerobic capacity, as well as burn fat.
Recumbent exercise bikes also stress the gluteal muscles more so than with traditional upright bikes.
They are both awesome bikes. I couldn't pick one over the other.

I used to be on my sisters bike about an hour a day and that did me fine. I got really toned and I had a flat stomach from doing that for an hour a day. I ate good food to though, so you can't just rely on that.

You never have to wait for the light to change. You never get caught in a rainstorm. You're never too far from the bathroom or fridge. You never have to worry about a flat tire. You never miss an important phone call. You never get accused of sneaking out to hoochy-coochy. You end up with something for your yard sale.

1/2 hour at least. Its best to have a tv to watch or you probably won't do it and it will just gather dust. I know this from experience. I personally prefer the treadmill or the stairmaster.

They are safe from traffic, road, and weather hazzards. They are much easier on the knees then treadmills. You can ride them while you watch television. After my knee surgery I worked with a personal training to prepare for a bike marathon. She had me ride the stationary bike for 30 minutes on level one. Then she had me ride on level 1 for 20 minutes...then go to level 2 for 5 minutes...then back down to level 1 for 5 minutes. After I got comfortable with that we moved it up to 15 minutes on level 1......5 minutes on level 2.....5 minutes on level 3..... and then 5 minutes back down on level 1. After that we went to 10 minutes on level 1, 5min on level 2, 5min on level 3, 5min. on level 6 and then back down to level 1 for 5 min.
I think you get the idea....
