I have a coworker that works on the other side of a divider from me... he constantly makes noises and talks to himself. One day he even cried out for his mommy?!?! Seriously and he's 53 yrs old! He makes sounds that makes it sound like he's a money and god knows what else. He also likes to sing... which wouldn't be that bad if he'd sing the right words, but he's usually a 1/2 verse off and completely out of tune! He's nice, but dumber then anyone I know and drives me completely insane with the constant noises and such.

I have told my boss about it and I don't think he really cares. It's a small office and there isn't extra room anywere to move to a new location.
I've also tried the headphone thing... but if I have it loud enough to cover him then I can't hear anything else and I think I'll go deaf with how load it has to be! I'd have to have them higher in volume then what I have them at when I work out! This is just insane and I feel like I'm losing a bit more sanity every second I have to listen to it!

Bring it up to your supervisor. Just tell them you are really trying to get good work done, and you don't want to complain, but your cubby is just too noisey. OR when the person starts making noise, peek in with a really weird look on your face and say "You ok?"

What's the boss think of this?

Get a pair of ear plugs or better yet, a set a headphones and listen to music at a low enough volume that you can still hear the phone, but not him.

Politely tell him that you can hear him making noise over the cube, and that it is distracting you from your work. He may not even realize that the sound is carrying that far.
If that doesn't work, address it with your boss or his.

Wow, tough one. I think he's probably looney enough that asking him to quiet down might make it worse, so I'd ask for a new cube.

do the same but worse, start crying out loud singing in tongues, and occassionally let out a massive fart that shakes the walls
