Try this one :

"Dad, I'll pay for it myself."

Until then .... take it as it comes.
(I'm not trying to be cute ... just making a point)

I suspect this isn't so much a problem with your motherboard, but with your fatherboard! Looking at it from his side, my questions would start with, "Do you really need it?" He's most likely thinking that he's already spent a bundle on a computer, now you want to change its innards. Is this really necessary? The way he's looking at it is like a teenager with a car wanting to swap a bigger engine into it. Why? -That's his question. The kid's not satisfied with what he's got, and now wants a muscle car engine in the sedan he's got....

Then he's got other questions going through his head... Would it even fit? Is this a job you can do yourself, or is it going to cost me a fortune to have it done in a shop? Will the thing even work after that "brain transplant"? Is it going to mess up and make me have to junk the whole thing and buy a whole new one? Will it suddenly make my electric bill go through the roof? -Or will it dim all the lights in the house when you turn it on? Are you trying to create a Frankenstein monster or something?

Parents do look at it from that angle. You need to learn about the motherboard and its advantages, as has already been mentioned. Knowledge is your best weapon. Ask yourself all the questions I've mentioned here, to be armed with answers for Dad. Just wanting it because it's the latest one and all your friends have them isn't going to cut it. Dad's at the age where he's not interested in competing or keeping up with the Joneses.

I've gone through a couple new motherboards myself, and each time had to convince myself that I really needed them, so I can see where your Dad's coming from too. You also don't say how computer-savvy your Dad is. Does he really understand this stuff? If not, then it's up to you to tactfully educate him on it. And I suspect it's going to take more than some good or catchy phrases to do that.

First learn about the motherboard and all other options.
How much do you know about computers?
Do you know more than him?
Can you convince him that your ideas are best?
Then - convince your Dad that there is a good reason why you should have it.
Do something about earning it perhaps it is too expensive.
Or does your Dad know a lot about computer motherboards and is right?

To convince your dad is for you to be able to finish your studies or whatever you are doing at the moment - get a job and purchase a motherboard of your choice.
Stick with your dad he knows better and he want the best for you.Take care and have a nice day

You have to be certain it is compatible with the rest of your devices though, otherwise you could end up needing to update all your other hardware etc.
What are your reasons for wanting the new motherboard?
Do you have anybody to fit everything for you, you will need to know your way about the Bios etc.?
Do you have your operating system on a disc?

Have your answers ready for him.

Good luck with it. ;)

If you really want one that badly then show your dad how much by earning some of the money yourself or by doing lots of jobs for your mum and dad without complaing. When he sees how serious you are he may change his mind.
