I've heard something about a chuman or humanzee. Is this for real? Would anyone have sex with an ape to find out?

(Disgusting!)

Chimps and humans have differnet numbers of chromosomes. Humans have 46 and chimps 48.
And if it worked (Something similar works with horse x donkey) they would be sterile. But that's only possible if a chimp x human with 47 chromosomes is viable. But then, there are still other barriers on genetical scale that would have to be worked out.

I think this has something to do with the latest Michael Crighton novel which I confess I have not read.

I can pretty much guarantee there's no such animal anywhere on the planet - I doubt we could create a hybrid between these two very different species without more advanced genetic tampering than is currently available.

At leas you didnt ask if an ape could be crossed with a human as some people have which leads people like me to point out that we're already 100% ape.

What's interesting though is that we are in fact closer to Chimpanzees genetically than mice are to rats.

Animals genetically further apart than chimpanzees and humans have been crossed - zebras and horses for instance. Whether anyone has tried to cross a human and a chimpanzee, I don't know, but if they have, they haven't told anyone yet.
