Just woo wooing sound. No engine/drive noise.

Its not the battery if its making a woo woo sound. try it again now it has had a rest... it might have flooded the engine. if its a diesel make sure you let the glow plugs warm up first before you try to crank it. or it might be out of gas so check that as well

Try your lights, horn heater etc r they working ok? if they are not then either ur battery is flat or needing replaced. If yes they r working then it could b a starter problem, if it is the starter and ur from UK then dont buy from ur local dealer as they charge the earth, buy from either a car accessory shop, halfords or partsco. Cannot remember if u were a young lady cause if u r then twinkle ur eyes and u will get a nice discount from them. Depending on what occupation ur in or if u know someone in the car trade u will get a discount, then have it fitted by ur local garage or a friend who knows about cars. U can either buy new or cheapest way is reconditioned where u take ur old one in against a recon.

One thing Did u leave any electrical eqipment on during the 6 hours? as u may have and flattened the battery.Ah just noticed u could be from UK as u used the word motorway, the americans say freeway.

Another thing is, whats the weather like where u r? r u using the car a lot 4 short journeys also with lots of electrics on? heater lights etc, if so it could be pulling the battery down.

U dont say how old ur car is, also is it manual or auto as autos usually tend 2 have larger batteries fitted. Do u leave ur car outside or garaged? as leaving outside in freezing cold weather will pull a weak battery down, thats why u keep ur mobile warm in ur pocket during winter otherwise the battery will go flat in no time, I have a disabled buggy and during winter months I keep it indoors, the amount of people including my mother in law who keep thiers in a cold shed all have terrible trouble with their batteries, infact most have new ones only after a year where I just changed mine last year and they lasted 7 years from new and they were still getting me around up 2 about 10 to 15 miles, only reason I had them changed was they smelt of rotten eggs whilst being charged, I found out the prob which was a faulty charger which was cooking / overcharging them.

Lastly it could b the alternator, but get the battery charged first ans see what happens then have it tested free at a tyre and exhaust centre or casr accesory shop who may have one, don't be taken in by crooked mechanics.

The woo wooing ;-) is your starter motor turning but the Bendix isn't engaging. Try putting the car in gear and pushing it back and forth (car won't move you understand, just rocks against the engine load) if this doesn't free it try giving your starter motor a firm knock with a hammer.

If you live in New England it's probably frozen to the ground.! Check your transmission fluid. It may be very low.Start engine, open hood, pull the TRANSMISSION dip stick... See what you find..If it is low or non existent put the appropriate kind in up to the mark on the stick...Don't over fill....I am assuming it is an automatic.......If it's not you need a clutch....Wish for the best..

Battery.

A few years back, I borrowed my then-roommate's car to go to the grocery store. It was just fine, but when I came back out of the store...nothing. It needed a new battery!

Probably a flat battery. Left any lights on?

Left an interior light on and killed battery? I've done it before... if you have keyless entry, and the keyless won't work, it's probably the battery.
