There is no reason at all you should help the homeless, or anyone else for that matter. If you like, you can live a self-centered, self-absorbed life, concerned only with what you want. You can, if you wish, isolate yourself from any unpleasant fact and live in a cloud-cuckoo land of rampant "me-ism."
You might find that few and fewer people remain as interested in you as you are, but that shouldn't matter as long as you have you.

Because by helping others you also help yourself! Something that is not well understood in our capitalist "winner takes all" philosophy.
Homelessness also has many aspects. There are many homeless people who would not choose homelessness; but they don't have the means to pay ever increasing rents.
The most publcized are those "welfare bums" who are on drugs and boose and nicotin, and who live on the taxpayers' purse. There are plenty of corporate welfare bums waisting far more taxpayers' money!
The least publicized are the working poor who need every penny they earn just to feed their family.
There are a few categories inbetween. The involuntary homeless people have been effectively "expropriated" by the "right to own property" which gives housing to the highest bidder and leaves the loser go empty. Winner takes all! That's our capitalistic society, which ignores that there are no winners unless there are losers.
Social justice is supposed to mean equal rights for all. It SHOULD also mean equal responsibilities toward all.

Why should you do anything good? Why should you not beat your mother? Why should you not kick babies? You live in a world where there are people less fortunate than you. There are people all over the world who are poor and sick. If I see you getting beat up by some thug -why should I say anything? It is easy to be cynical if you are not on the hard side of the street. The answer to why you should help the homeless is because you can.

Why should anyone have to do anything for you? Millions of people are just one paycheck away from being homeless-I can't believe that you actually think that way-how horrible for you. Why don't you try to help some of the homeless people and what they will do for you is Thank you for caring about them. Many homeless are veterans, they fought in wars for your freedom among other things and there is something that they did for you.!!

You, personally, don't have to do anything!!! If people do something, they should do it on their own account not b/c they feel forced to do something. Unfortunately, we hardly have people that are truly careing towards others b/c we are all so consumed with our ow lifes, our own ups & downs, etc. There is so much joy in helping people that you have to do it in order to understand it. The people in need could be homless, elders, disabled people, or whatever .. I would really encourage you to do good to others without expecting something back in return... it helps a person grow and learn to appreciate life better>> step our of your comfort zone. If you really think about it... anything good you do unto the community is not a diservice to yourself. I think if people did more for others in general... we wouldn't have so many homeless people or drug addicts or other outcast groups. Grant it... we're going to always have these type of peopel but why not hope for a better societ? Why not do something about it now?

That is a very selfish and immature way of thinking. Most homeless are that way because they have a mental disease but can't get proper meds to take on a daily basis. Or they bottomed out because of a disease such as alchoholism or gambling and they have no means to get their life back. If you lost everything you had but had no help, would you want others to disregard you as a bum and pass you by without a care in the world? PUt yourself in their shoes and try to understand why they are there in the first place. It's not your job to save all the homeless but you can help them.

The largest group of homeless are the mentally ill. The fastest growing group of homeless are ladies with young children. While we don't know the cause, it certainly points toward domestic abuse or abandonment. Who would you refuse to help if we knew how to do it?
The ones we hear about are a small but vocal group of addicts and alcoholics. We could at least invite them to an AA or NA meeting.

Why should you support the Church? What have THEY ever done for you? Or the politicians, what have they ever done for ANYBODY, besides themselves? You should support the poor and homeless because they are having things rough, just like you will someday. When the tables are turned, it isnt so pretty, is it? Hopefully, someday you will be in their shoes, then ask the same question.

I see all humans as a cell in the body of humans collective consciousness, we want to give attention and adoration to the brain cells but ignore the feet cells.... (the poor)....Unity of mind is a concept humanity will learn to realize, you can either be a sore preventing the evolution of man or a healing cell that helps humanity evolve.......
