I want to know how a plastic diaper is able to hold so much wetness without leaking out.

All diapers are pretty much the same except some have more absorbancy obviously hah.. but what happens is when moisture is presented to the diaper it feels wet or damp on the surface but if you were to open it up in the center layers it has crystalized so as long as there are still unused absorbing crystals your good to go... diapers are simular to pads try doing an experiment to see what i mean use like water with food colouring then disect the diaper or pad either way same idea... I asked this question sooo long ago it still is fasinating how it works hah

If you are talking about disposables, this is why
Disposable diapers contain sodium polyacrylate, a type of super absorbent polymer (SAP), which becomes a gel-like substance when wet. A similar substance had been used in super-absorbancy tampons until the early 1980s when it was revealed that the material increased the risk of toxic shock syndrome.
