i'm not sure there is a solution to my problem, but i'm holding out hope :) so, a few months ago i accidentally locked my car with the clicker at the exact moment that i was pulling up on the handle to open one of the back doors. i heard a loud pop from the door, and have not been able to open the door from the outside since.

this was ok because i was still able to open the door from the inside. well, a few days ago a friend was taking a look at the door and in the process engaged the child safety lock and closed the door.

now i can't open it from the inside or outside. at all. any ideas? thanks!!!

(it's a 2000 volvo s40)

Check the owners manual to see if it can be reset. Otherwise call around to a few body shops to see if they can fix as they have doors apart all the time when doing repairs and should be able to fix much cheaper than the dealer. Get a few estimates first.

I suggest taking your car into a volvo dealership. They know how the door is constructed inside and out. They can provide a way to open the door without damaging any other mechanism inside. Don't rely on those AAA guys because they don't always know what they are doing. Get the dealership to open the door but don't let them pressure you into fixing it if you dont want to.

Good Luck! :)

You can try resetting your remote lock (clicker).
Instructions to do so should be in your owners manual.
If that unlocks the door from the outside then disengage the child safety lock.
