because the poorer live in the big cities and they believe they should be given everything for free....they feel they are entitled.......the democratic party also believes this and so they vote for the democrats.........the rest believe that you get what you work for.....this is what the republicans believe and these people vote for them.....

There are actually some pretty darn big cities that share "heartland" ideas/ideals. Houston is the 4th largest city in the states, but is largely conservative. At any rate, as someone mentioned earlier, where there are extremely large populations, there will be more diversity, and those of different views find their niches easily. Also, the more secular folk tend to live in larger cities on the coasts as well. Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Boston, etc.

Small towns are tight communities and its hard to keep anything discreet. They typically have little diversity in lifestyles and everything is right or wrong..not a lot of room for gray. So, when you're sneaking around being bad (or sinning) everyone finds out about it and the gossip starts. So social pressure is more intense in small towns because the whole community will know what you did. So stigmas are placed to pressure people to act in a discipline manner not to shame you and your family. In big cities, there is some much diversity of lifestyles no one cares what you do, so there little social stigma on behavior. It takes a lot to shock San Fransisco and NYC, because the big cities is one big shade of gray.

My husband and I are from two small towns in Texas. Now we still live in Texas, but in a large city. So from living in both environments, the best answer that I can give you is this.

1.) People living in cities tend to have more education than those
in rural areas.
2.) In a city, you are exposed to many different kinds of people
ways of life.

People in the country tend to lead a lot more sheltered lives and are not exposed to alternative beliefs and opinions as their counterparts in the city.

they don't, it's just a perception that is reinforced but is, in fact false.

the only difference between the coastal regions and the middle regions of the usa is the concentration of people.

where there are more poeople you are likely to get more diversity of ideas.

that is really the only difference...
