I went to a dealership and they told me that I'd have to buy the whole piece to get the rubber part which is about $50.

Meanwhile, the person who installed my remote starter said a dealership could do it.

It's a'97 Cavalier.

I tried on-line, but no one seemed to understand what I was asking for.

I've had the car for 7 years, and my long nails have worn out the pads so that it barely works to unlock or lock the car. I just put a new battery in it, so I know it works. The trunk pops open just fine; the lock buttons are really worn out.

Yeah, the dealers want top dollar for such a small part. If I understand your question correctly, you can try this for under $2.00. Go to the home depot, buy a small package of 1/2 inch clear vinyl surface guards. They are used primarily for lamps and vases to prevent scratches on furniture, and are self adhesive. Cut one in half, peel off the backing and press onto the remote. That will give you an elevated surface on your remote for easier depression of the buttons.

Cut those long nails or poke it with a pencil eraser.!!The only way to get the switch cover is to either steal someone else's or buy a new remote..Trying to get the little cover is impossible..In this day and Yuppie age no one repairs a damn thing, they buy a new whatever...Sorry for the bad news but those are the facts. Actually the little rubber thingy is call a dohicky.!
