I consider myself a Conservative. However, I think the outrage and hyperbole are annoyances that put off a lot of people and obscure the true message. Yelling and name-calling will change no one's mind. In fact, it does more harm than good.
The moderates and liberals can point to us and say "they're nuts". If we all calmed down and discussed the issues we might find some common ground or perhaps reach a consensus on a matter.
As it stands right now, globalizing and generalizing are ineffective tools and throw more gasoline on the fire. Try some anger management classes...

OK mister conservative. Are you conservative enough to pass a high protective tariff on foreign goods coming into this country to save American jobs? Are you conservative enough to be in favor of abolishing the Federal Reserve and putting our currency back on the gold standard? Are you conservative enough to obey the Constitution when it demands only Congress shall declare war on another nation? What is passing for true conservatism these days is a modern goofy neo-conservatism that is nothing but a gaggle of idiots who believe in the words of G.W. Bush: "the Constitution is just a G-d D-mn piece of paper!" There are a lot of us true conservatives out here who are fed up with this Bush-it. Now doesn't that sound intellectual to you?

Actually I've never responded to such baiting before.
I would have responded earlier but it is no use dealing with people without any original thought.
As far as intelectually superior, if you have not the ability to determine that your conservative friends have left the U.S. in a world of deep Doo Doo then our case is proved.

To me 'liberalism' means the following things. They are:
1) an inclusive society--gays minority races, etc.
2) care for the poor and elderly
3) political participation by all people. I.E. voting, civic meetings
4) control of my own body. I.E. drug use, sexuality
