Every doctor is different. Call the office and expalin your situation. They will let you know your options.
If you are concerned about learning the sex, the later they do it the more accurate their prediction is.
They will either move your u/s back a few days into January or postpone it until after February. I imagine moving it back a couple of days won't be an issue.
**BTW--if you have a gap in insurance coverage longer than 63 days then any new insurance company can deem your pregnancy "pre-existing" and not cover any of the expenses!

they do the scan at 18 - 20 weeks because of the development of the baby not the timing. At 18-20 weeks of pregnancy, women have a more detailed ultrasound scan. The ultrasonographer makes sure the right amount of fluid surrounds the baby, examines the baby's head, heart, spine, limbs and internal organs in detail and checks the position of the placenta. This scan can identify some physical abnormalities, such as cleft lip or skeletal abnormalities, and can confirm spina bifida if blood tests have shown the baby is at high risk. it is difficult to check for these signs before due to the development to the baby. hope this helps

They will usually only do it at 20 weeks because that is when it is best to take all of the measurements that they need. You could go have one done yourself at an outside place, but that wouldn't be covered by insurance anyway. See if you can change your appt to like 1/31 then it would still be covered, but be close to the 20 weeks.

You could have it done sooner. I just had mine today at 19 weeks. My doctor told me that if they did it much sooner than that they could risk not being able to see the things they are looking for such as all 4 chambres of the heart, the renal (kidney) system, sex of the baby, and other developmental signs that they monitor. Doctors are usually sensitive to insurance issues. Talk to yours and see if they can do it at 19 weeks. They saw everything they needed to when they did mine today. :)

I would talk to your doctor. Most of the time they will help you out. The 20 weeks is important bc they do measurements then, and other things to make sure he/she is growing healthy...so yes this is a big ultrasound. I would call asap and see if they can do on Jan. 30th or 29...something around that time!!!

They really want to wait until 20 weeks so they can compare the measurements with all the other 20 week babies. I'm sure they will go one week sooner or later.
Gee you only need one day sooner. Ask.

16-21 weeks is just fine to have the 20 week scan. Just call and reschedule--they don't need to know your insurance will be dropped just that you need an earlier appt. If they can't get you in then explain the situation and they will almost definantly be able to fit you in. Call and reschedule as soon as possible though!

Talk to your dr about it. I had mine done at 18 wks, a lot depends on the schedule where you are having it done. With mine it just so happened that they had a cancellation on the day that the nurse called to schedule my appt so I got in a little early.
