step 1.) the first term can be solved either by long mtd of multiplication or by special product, "Square of a Binomial." This is done by getting the square of the first term + twice the product of the 1st and 2nd terms of the given binomial + the square of the 2nd term
hence:

(6 +X)^2 = 6^2 +(2)(6)(X) +X^2
= 36 +12X + X^2

step 2.) transpose 100 to the left side of the equation and then combine like terms:

36 + 12X + X^2 - 100=0
X^2 + 12X -64= 0

step 3.) factor the result by trial and error mtd of factoring a quadratic of the formX^2 +(a+b)X + ab = (X +a)(X + b) thus:

X^2 +12X - 64 = (X - 4)(X + 6) = 0

step 4: solve for the values of X by equating each of the factor to 0

X - 4 = 0 X + 6 = 0
X= 4 X= -6

(6+X)^2+X^2=100
36 + 12x +x^2 +x^2 = 100
2x^2 +12x +36 = 100
x^2 + 6x + 18 = 50
x^2 +6x -32 = 0
x = [-6 +/- sqrt(36 + 128)]/2
x = -3 +/- sqrt(41)
x = -3 + sqrt(41), and
x = -3 - sqrt(41)

(6 + X) * (6 + X) = 36 + 12X + X^2

36 + 12X + X^2 + X^2 = 100

12X + 2X^2 = 64

2(6X + X^2) = 64

6X + X^2 = 32

that's all i got so far.

hi,

(36 + 12X + X^2) +X^2 = 100
36 + 12X + 2X^2 = 100
div by 2,
18 + 6X + X^2 = 50
X^2 + 6X -32 = 0
X = 3.4031, -9.4031

hope i answered your quest.
