A lot of wrong answers here. 1 byte consists of 8 bits. 1 byte can represent a character or part of data Computers work in base 8 not base 10. Therefore 1 megabyte is actually 1024 bytes 1 megabit is actually 1024 bits. Bytes would be faster! However, bit compression is how transmission speed is measured. Therefore most speeds listed for broadband connection are in megabits.

in general "what will fit" terms, a Megabyte (1 Meg, or 1 Mb) is 1 million bytes...and a Gigabyte (1 Gig, or 1G) is one billion bytes.
Each is 3-zeros apart, so you can fit 1,000 Megs into one Gig...generally speaking, of course.
To put it another way, if your average MP3 is 4megs, then you can expect to get about 250 songs into each Gig of space on your player.
If your average video is 10Megs, then you can guess-timate about 100 videos per Gig.

1 b = bite
1B = byte = 8 bites
1 MB = 1024 KB
1 GB = 1000 MB - 1 CD has 702 MB which is less than 1 GB
1 DVD has 4.7 GB which is 6 CD
So ... if you have a movie on a single cd it is 0,7 GB
If you have a movie on 2 cd it's 1,4 GB .... got it?

One Gigabyte (GB) is roughly 1,000 Megabytes(MB).
So a 30GB player would be able to hold about 30,000 MB.
