yes alot of the muscians in pop bands are session muscians...meaning they play all different types of music with different artist who need a back up band

Yes, they will normally have a session player with a pedal rack consisting of different effects for the guitar.

You will hardly find any pop band playing their own instruments these days. Even the session players might be asked to play a riff and then it will be looped all the way through the song using studio work.
