Just came across something of interest on Hitler on the History Channel. He was a very poor public speaker and had to be taught to do it better. He had what we today call spin doctors, who taught him the best way to put a good spin on his beliefs. It surprised me who it was that first taught him, in 1919, what he needed to know. This was after a very disastrous speech in which he was booed from the stage.

It is only recently that this was learned, from silent home movies which has been sitting in storage since the end of the war. They had begun using lip readers to translate the movies.

I have heard this and understand that it is true. As I recall that it was a former Imperial Officer who had gained a post in the force raised by the former Kingdom of Bavaria - which was had been a state of the Empire. The officer hoped to use Hitler to combat communist street agitators - and I have seen a photo of Hitler as a street orator. Sadly the name of the officer escapes me - but I do believe that you are on the right track. My memory also is that the officer was Jewish - as the person above suggested, and I think that his first name was Max.

I've read biographies of Hitler and this is new to me. His way to defeat opponents was to scream at them. He remained a screamer all his life. Goebbels was a much smoother talker (and much better educated), which is why he was chosen as the propaganda minister. The sources about Hitler can be very biased. For an interesting take on the whole era, check out "Inside the Third Reich" by Albert Speer.

I can only find texts about Paul Devrient, an Opera Star, which was recommended to Hitler by one of his physicians. It doesn't say anywhere that he was jewish. And apparently it was in 1932, thus after Hitler first coup d'état in 1924.
Devrient had no interest in the content of Hitler's speeches, but only in the evolution of his rhetoric skills. After WWII Devrient refused to publish his memoires, because he felt Hitler's rise to power was his fault.
(Of course eventually it was published. It is called "Mein Schüler Adolf Hitler" which means "My pupil Adolf Hitler")

Heinrich Hoffmann served not only as Hitler's photographer but also as his confidant and public-speaking coach. Hitler met his future mistress, Eva Braun, during visits to the Hoffmann studio, where she worked.
