Here recently my computer would just shut down on its own. So I done a system recovery and since then it wont dectect the modem so that I can get back online. Is there a way, step by step that I can get the computer to dectect the modem again? When I reinstall the aol software it say's that aol connectivity service has encountered a problem and then it will close. Then it will say that its not detecting my modem, when the day before it was working just fine.
What should I do to fix it, Its still in good shape and I dont wanna junk it. I have tried everything I can think of, if someone can help it would be greatly appreciated!!

It might be as simple as unplugging the modem, waiting about a minute, then plugging it back in. This allows the modem to reboot, just like a computer sometimes needs to reboot. Although this article talks about home networks, the part about rebooting a modem applies. Hope this helps.

hi, simply by fact the modem became working in the previous and after the restoration is now no longer working that for sure skill that the trojan has nonetheless left some code that cannot be detected and no quantity of equipment restoration or something is going to alter that. All procedures of restoring or repairing ur laptop require it to have internet get right of entry to so as that they gained't artwork. I propose that u attempt the final often happening solid configuration determination. If that doesnot artwork besides then reinstall dwelling house windows by using deleting all contemporary partitions and re transforming into them in xp setup. solid success!

What was the reason for doing a system recovery? You probably had spyware that could cause a premature shut down. You can undo the system recovery, by retracing your steps and choose undo. This will put the computer back to where it recognizes the modem and AOL. Then find the reason for the premature shutdown.

Try getting SpyBot and Ad-Aware from Download.com and running them both to clean the computer of spy-and malware.
Get full updates for both before running them. Immunize the computer in SpyBot before running it. Do a full system scan in Ad-Aware. Remove everything both of them find. In SpyBot, it will say "Fix all problems". In Ad-Aware, it will show them as items. Click beside each one and choose Delete (or Remove).

You need to re-install the modem's drivers. If you installed this yourself use the CD that came with the modem. If you don't have the installation CD, download and run Belarc Advisor to find out who made the modem, then you can go to their web site and download the needed drivers from there.
