The one I heard alot was the more heartburn you have the more hair the baby will have. That is totally not true. I had heartburn all through my first pregnancy and my son was born bald.

Well you have a lot of the common tales already but here was a new one for me.
If you're pregnant and you see a snake, touch a part of your body that's hidden because the first place you touch after you see a snake is where your baby will have a birth mark.
Now I don't know if this is what caused it, but I saw a snake so touched my scalp (hidden by hair so figured it would be okay lol) and when my son was born, he did have a birth mark where I'd touched. Also, all three of my children were born around a full moon. That's not an old wives' tale, there's a scientific explanation for that. Not that I can remember it exactly but something about the gravitational pull and the bag of waters. I also had severe heartburn and all my children were born with a ton of hair.
There were tons of the tales I've heard but the snake one was about the strangest.

It's most certainly Old Wives Tales. It's the kind of saying that gets passed down from one generation to another. Some are true and some are not. If in doubt, talk to a "wise" person.

I am a man and being a man in our family have also had a fair share of pregancy true tales. In our family the man have to please the womaen in every wim that the woman wants or needs or the baby will come out looking like the wim.
For example, my uncle did not bring the televison closer to his pregnant wife so she could see her movie and only during that pregancy, that child needed to use glasses, all the other children have perfect vision.

When a woman wants a certain food or drink during her prenancy we have to get it at all costs or the childs face or body will look like that. Thats why you have heard of an egg head or potatoe head. Well my sister had a craving of mash potatoes in the middle of the night. and there was none in the house and no place to go out and buy some, when the baby was born the baby's face was white just very white like a potatoe and both of them are tan white.

the safety pin with a key near the belly when a woman is pregant takes away bad luck from the moons magnetic rays during a full moon. Fact 2 women pregnant in the same place and envirnoment, both same nice personality but the one that did not place a key their child was born and the personality is mean and the child was a fuzzy baby at birth.

Here's a few I heard...

Drano mixed with urine will tell you if you're having a girl or a boy.
The baby's heart rate will determine the gender.
You need to drink plenty of water or the baby will get dirty in its sac of water.
If you hold your hands above your head you'll strangle the baby with the umbilical cord.
Pregnant women shouldn't take baths.
If the fetal heart rate is under 140 beats per minute (BPM), it's a boy.
Extra weight out front means a girl; weight around the hips and bottom indicates a boy.
If a woman's carrying low, it's a boy; if a woman's carrying high, it's a girl.
Dark nipples indicate a boy.
Don't breastfeed a toddler during pregnancy because the new baby needs all the nourishment it can get.

If your left breast is bigger than the right during pregnancy, you're having a girl. If the right is bigger, it'll be a boy. If they are the same size, you're in for a surprise!

If you get moody during pregnancy you are more likely to have a girl. This is because all women are moody, and when carrying a girl you become doubly so.

If the mother's age at conception and the year of conception are both even or both odd, the baby is a girl. If one is even and one is odd, the baby is a boy.

If you suffer from acne during pregnancy, you will have a girl.

Ask the mom-to-be to show you her hands. If she shows them palms up, it's a girl; palms down, a boy.

If you dream of girls, you will have a boy. If you dream of boys, you will have a girl.

If you're craving sweets, you're having a girl. If you're craving salt, you're having a boy.

These are fun!!!

I have heard alot, My grandma is Italian from the "old country" and my sons granparents are Mexican and also from the "old country", I have heard that you should not drink pickle juice or eat pickles while preg. because in Mexico to give yourself a home abortion it requires vinegar, and pickle juice is alot of vinegar. I was told by my sons grandmother also that I could not wear black to my sons fathers funeral because I can put a curse on my unborn child. My grandmother told me that when she had her kids her mom would rub a pee pee diaper across the baby's face to clear the babies complection (baby acne). I have also heard the one about heartburn from her. However the most prominent one that sticks out in my head when asked about wives tales is the one about the evil eye, my sons grandmother always said if someone looks at a baby and does not touch it or thinks neg. thoughts about the baby, the baby would have a curse. One of the symptoms was crying alot (colic??) She told me my son had the oho (evil eye) and she did all kinds of prayers on him with an egg and cracked the egg in the glass and let it sit there until a spider crawled out of the egg... I had no problems with there superstitions wether I believed them or not and as long as it did not harm my baby I was ok with it..

Castor oil and cod liver oil probably won't give the outcome some who want to quicken the process of going into labor want, although you will make many trips to the ladies room if you try.

The baby's sex really can't be determined by the heart rate, although it has about a 50% accuracy rate, duh.

My mom says I have dark hair because she ate so many chocolate dilly bars, I think not!

No one really craves sardines and ice cream together, do they?

Good question.

I've heard - if you jump backwards you can change the sex -- also drinking tomatoe juice helps with an easy and less-painful delivery. Another one is the if you have bad heart-burn during your pregnancy your baby will have a head full of hair.

lets see the necklace over the stomach determines the sex if boy it'll spin clock wise girl counter clockwise

also.... the sex is determined by putting Clorox cleanup gel in a toilet and a pregnant woman then urinates in the toilet if water turns blue boy pink girl supposedly the chemicals in a preg. woman's urine while determine the color

also... if you have heartburn the baby will have a head full of hair

also....what you crave to eat when the child is born it's birth mark will be of that for exp. my mother inlaw craved shrimp and chicken when my husbands sister was born she had 2 birthmarks on her leg one of a chicken and one of a shrimp

There is one about handing a pregnant woman a fork...I can't remember it well...I think if she reaches for it with her right hand, it's a girl; with her left, it's a boy.

The best prediction method: ultrasound :)

Foolproof method: birth :)

Good luck & Congrats
