He is to the left, not a moderate. The website below gives him a 'liberal populist' rating. He is pro-choice, pro-gay rights, supports government welfare, and is against the Iraq war.

He's a Democrat. I'm not certain whether or not he is extremely liberal or more moderate since I haven't seen him speak enough. I do know that many people think he is a good speaker so I'm looking forward to seeing if its true. His family immigrated here from Kenya. Despite his middle name, his family is Christian. There was a news story about someone messing up his name in some newscast displaying in text his name as Barack Osama. They apologized. Oprah endorsed him on her show. Other than that I can't tell you much. I wish he'd come speak at my university so I'd learn more about where he stands.

I really don't know if you are going to get a good answer although it is a very good Q. I haven't been able to figure out what he stands for. He is a smiling friendly face, without much political background, nothing to speak of in foriegn policy or military experience. He has shown me absolutely squat in administrative abilities. Has he ever had a real job?
I'm in a minority here, but I think we should look at candidates for political office as we would look at a candidate for a job, as if (and we are) the employer. It's unfortunate that so few voters have a clue for what job they elect someone to fill.
Too many people who vote want to extend the status quo, a free ride on the tax payers coat tails. So far, this is all I see to his appeal. As we know more about him, this could change, but I see nothing yet that would indicate anything that would recommend him as having the background neccessary as a head administrator for a major nation.

Barak Obama is considered a moderate based upon the issues he's stated a position on. He's a first term senator so he doesn't have a long record to back him up. He has tremendous charisma and comes across as being very sincere. He has impressive qualifications and a diverse background. Personally, I'd like to see him have some more experience swimming with the sharks before throwing him off the deep end of the pool to run the country.

Unfortunately he is anybody you want him to be. He served a term in the Illinois State Senate and is in his second year as a
U. S. Senator. He made a name for himself when he addressed the DNC. The problem is he has not been on the political scene long enough to determine exactly what he is.
I do not have a problem with him being black. I do have a problem with his real father being a Muslim from Kenya, his mother being an atheist. He was raised by a Muslim step-father who sent him to a Wahhabi Muslim school in Jakarta. Wahhabism is the most extreme form of Islam. His name is Barrack Hussein Obama.
Experts will tell you early childhood plays an important role in the development of a person. If you were educated in an extreme Wahhabi Muslim school, where would your loyalties be?
I certainly hope the American public will look long and hard at this person and not take his charming and articulate manner at face value.
I am not an especially Christian person but this could be our Anti-Christ.

I cant tell u all of his politics but he isn't too far to the left more moderate to me. i think no one can tell u about a candidate u have to watch. I have heard him speak both to the house and to the common man and I would vote for him i think he is more promoting the progress of the US than oppressing other places. If you watch the news within the next two days or so he has been speaking a lot on CNN and listen to the commentaries and formulate your own opinions. I would vote for him though just based on the fact that somehow even though hew is a black man he has gained the respect of the upper-class white people legitimately that is saying something

Funny you should ask. I got this email this morning. I haven't researched to see if it's factual but I trust the person who sent it to me. It went like this:
Possible U. S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu , Hawaii , to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black Muslim from Nyangoma-Kogel , Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white atheist from Wichita , Kansas . Obama's parents met at the University of Hawaii . When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced. His father returned to Kenya . His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a radical Muslim from Indonesia . When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocated to Indonesia . Obama attended a Muslim school in Jakarta . He also spent two years in a Catholic school.
Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim. He is quick to point out that, “He was once a Muslim, but that he also attended
Catholic school. "
Obama's political handlers are attempting to make it appear that Obama's introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence was temporary at best. In reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any direct influence over his son's education. Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama's mother, Ann Dunham,
introduced his stepson to Islam. Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta . Wahabism is the radical teaching that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world.
Since it is politically expedient to be a Christian when seeking major public office in the United States , Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background.

Sorry if this isn't what you're looking for but it's all I have. Have a nice day.

What a shame to read about the brochure smearing Obama. I guess it is a sign that he has become a serious candidate. From the research I have done, all the reputable articles I have read just note that Obama is a Christian. Here is one for example: a Newsweek article http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14961215/site/newsweek/
I would be willing to bet the article that theorizes that he is a Muslim and discusses he is a church member only for appearances, and believes he is not a Christian (how do they know his heart or beliefs?) is written by a Republican or Republican organization. I am just so cynical.
