There is no limit. Studies have shown that our face memorization begins as an infant drawn to the particulars of our parents. A newborn knows its parent from a stranger. There was an interesting program done by the public stations called, "The Human Face" narrated by John Cleese. It covered quite a bit on the subject.

Millions. I have a photographic memory for faces. I might meet you once and be told your name. Years later, I might not remember your name, but I will not have forgotten your face.
