It depends what you mean by average. Top MBA programs look at the following:

1. Previous GPA
2. Quality of previous university
3. GMAT
4. Essays
5. Interview
6. Letters of Recommendation
7. Work experience (both the time and quality).

I have found that many students at the top schools are lacking in one of these areas -- but not two. If you have a GPA between 3.0 and 3.3 -- then everything else better be outstanding if you want a top MBA program. If you have a much lower GPA then it is unlikely that you will get into a top MBA program.

You should be able to get into some MBA program -- just not a ranked school.

Your past academic background will not be a barrier if it is equivalent to the minimum required. Success at GMAT is primarily a function of hard work and a sharp will to achieve. Memory power also proves helpful. Long practice and study have been found very positive in producing good results. If you can read, understand and write with speed and good grasp, you can expect a fulfillment of wish flash coming your way. Best of
luck.
