The black lines that are under football players eyes are there to help keep the sun from getting into their eyes. The black absorbs the light from the sun so the player can see better. Some athletes from other sports use this to have the same effect.

I asked my husband the same thing. I understand why they wear in the day time, under the sun. It is to reduce glare, but they also wear them under their eyes at night, and even when they play in a dome. That I don't understand, what glare is there then. Moon glare!!
