Pearl Farm is not Davao. Pearl Farm is located in the City of Samal. It is quite different from visiting a resort and living in a city. Often people take vacations to fascinating spots around the world and believe they want to live there - vacations/holidays are not everyday reality.

Davao is safe although we did have approximately 650 murders last year and the percentage of crimes solved in the city is only about 62 percent. Most murders occur within families and among freinds. I returned last week to find the security bars had been ripped from one window and my house was robbed, but these things happen everywhere. I certainly feel safer in Davao than I ever felt in Manila.

The Mayor is very strict and serves the citizens of Davao well. He does not tolerate civil disobedience and has zero tolerance for drug pushers/users. He will certanly be re-elected although he says after the next term he will not seek office again and is grooming his daughter to replace him. The political system in Davao seems far more mature than elsewhere in the Philippines and I contribute that to the Mayor.

The infra-structure is sound. Water, electricity, telephone and Internet are good. Davao has the only 911 Emergency System in the Philippines and the emergency equipment is modern. New traffic signals have been installed through out the city and soon will be operational. Traffic is congested at certain hours of the day on the main roads, but of course traffic is nothing like you will find in Manila. The streets are clean and the people obviously have a different mindset than those in Manila concerning litter.

There are five prominent malls, but the largest and nicest mall is SM Mall. You can find anything you need in the malls, unless you are a man with a waist size above 40 inches or need 2X shirts.

There are four or five good hospitals. Davao Doctors has the latest equipment for Cardiology. There are excellent doctors in Davao. I believe any medical need could be addressed in Davao.

Unemployment rate is double digit as is the rest of Mindanao. I think Davao is on the threshold of becoming a major player in the Philippine economy. Call Centers and other electronic/technical industries are showing interest in Davao. The housing industry is booming. The opportunity to open a business is excellent at this time.

Davao is an excellent city to raise a family. It is not as attractive for a single person as there are not as many entertainment venue's as one would find in Manila. Davao is laid back and when night fall comes the streets are dead. Most retail stores and malls are closed by 8PM. If you are the type of person that needs to be entertained to prevent boredom then Davao is not the place.

The people in Davao are no different than the people in the rest of the Philippines. They are family orientated, religious, superstitious and hard workers. Contrary to what many say I do not find the people of the Philippines as warm and welcoming as the Tourist Bureau suggest. You are not going to walk down the streets of Davao and find people greeting and smiling at you. In fact if you greet them they will appear shocked and most likely you will not get a reply.

Davao is an ideal place in the Philippines to raise a family, but since I am retired, single, do not like spending days in malls and a retired priest I am ready to leave.

I was raised and grew up in Davao City, lived for 30 years until I migrated to California. I love this place! Nothing can compare like Davao City. One thing that is so nice about Davao is safety. I feel that walking even in midnight or early morning is safer than any other places. I witnessed the progress of Davao and truly salute Mayor Duterte for his contributions to make Davao City a safe place to live.

which Philippine city is the most important next to Manila? -- I think they are equal. which is more progressive? -- Davao City. It's more progressive because the city has less corruption. I can tell from the services and how government works in the City. Where you can find the most beautiful airport in the Philippines. It's in Davao. Wide road very accessible. How about 911 for emergency? Only in America they have in Davao as well. Very clean and and people are discipline. Sport, leisure, accommodation we have them all for you. Mountain Resort if you want to experience the Baguio life style we have it in Davao. Beach Resort world class. Crocodile Park and the last is Peoples Park its gorgeous and its free for everyone. The downside of Davao City is being part of the Mindanao Island. :(( which has more tourists? Cebu. Luckily Cebu is not part of Mindanao. which has a better skyline? Cebu

I'm from Manila. I've been to Davao once. Although it is located in Mindanao, I could say based on experience that it is one of the "most" peaceful city in the Philippines. The people are very friendly and helpful. And before I forget "Pearl Farm Resort" is amazing!

Davao is a nice place. The air is clean, the fruits and fish are fresh, lifestyle is so simple. Peace and order there is ok. The Mayor is a good public servant and a good disciplinarian. Try to go there and I am sure, you will love the place.

Davao City is great, better than Manila in some ways. They have very strict anti-public smoking law and everyone complies to it. It's clean, organized, lively and food (especially fruits) is cheap. Their airport is very modern and the non-aircon cabs never overcharge.
