i damaged the ligaments in my knee about 6 years ago. i had physio etc but now recently i'm having problems with my lcl, even when i go to sit down i'm in pain. What i am looking for is some advice on how to get it better? and how long it should take. I had problems with it for over a year now. My physio said it takes time to heal but surely not this long?!!

Initial treatment of an LCL injury includes ice to the area, elevation of the joint above the level of the heart, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and limited physical activity until the pain and swelling subside. A hinged knee immobilizer should be used to protect the ligament as it heals. The extent of this type of injury is usually excessive stretching of the ligament causing the pain and tenderness.
I would visit a doctor to see if there is an escalation of the injury and to prescribe a new course of treatment.

Hey, I wonder if it really is ur LCL that is causing your problems? I'm not sure if you mean you have been having physio for this new problem or saying it takes time based on previous advice given to you? Also was there any event which triggered the start of this pain? Something as simple as climbing stairs more often could cause pain if it's unaccustomed, or driving a different car. I'm just wondering if your problem is possibly caused by irritation to your iliotibial band, which runs down the outside of the leg to just below your knee. It actually runs down the same line as the LCL. An injury to this structure could take longer to heal, especially if it's been treated as an LCL injury. It might be worth seeing a different physio just to get a different perspective on it! Hope that helps!

This is not good news! I have been off since October after hurting my knee ligaments. I have an MRI on Tuesday.

If you have only recently gone back to the physio, then perhaps he/she is right and you have to give the physio a chance to work. I found physio useful but I still have pain especially going up and down stairs and walking on uneven surfaces.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. Wish you well in your recovery xx

to that end you will discover in some unspecified time interior the destiny throughout the time of your wide-unfold physio or maybe purely once you're doing each and on a daily basis issues your knee will crack, and it will likely be loud as in case you have snapped a bone on your leg, certainly you will go through slightly discomfort yet you will discover great alleviation as quickly as this has befell, you have gone via important surgical operation that has brought about severe trauma to your physique, those issues can take a variety of of time yet once you're one to persevere you will get there
