Rebooting normally happens once you have installed a major piece of software like an antivirus application or a new piece of hardware.
It can be done by clicking start->shutdown then selecting the restart option.
Although you havnt asked i would suggest you only turn ur pc off when your not planning on using it in a while and turnin it on and off all the time is not so good for it.
Perhaps researching or asking me how to use the hibernate function so that windows starts up quicker.
hope this helps

Rebooting means you turn it off and turn it back on again. "Restart." Go to the start button and click on "shut down" or "turn off computer." In Windows XP, there's a big red button with a design of a vertical bar inside a circle right next to it.
That button will take you to a list of options, such as "standby," a power-saving mode that makes it easier to get the computer back running again than after turning it off, "hibernate," which is like standby, "turn off computer" or "shut down" which will safely cut off power to the computer (in old models it just preps the system so it's safe for you to turn it off), and "restart," which cuts off the power and immediately starts back up again.
Never just pull the plug on a computer. There's a good chance you'll lose whatever you were working on at the time, and the disruption can damage important programs somehow. I'm a little fuzzy on that. You do need to turn it completely off and unplug it in a lightning storm, because a strong power surge from a nearby strike can fry its circuits.
Rebooting the computer is like starting over. No unnecessary programs are running, and if you installed any programs, they'll be ready to go. It's a quick fix if your computer ever starts freaking out, but it won't get rid of any underlying bugs or viruses if they start causing trouble.

The short answer is:
To switch it on.
The long answer. When a computer first turns on it needs to load a lot of programs before you can use it.
The biggest and most important of these programs is called the Operating System, which is a program that lets other programs use the various bits of the computer (like the disk, the screen, the keyboard etc) and arbitrates between the different programs on the computer so that each gets a fair share. (The most common operating systems in use are by Microsoft and are called "Windows" there are different versions such as Windows 2000 and Windows XP).
The process of loading the Operating System is called BOOTING. REBOOTING is where you tell the computer to switch off and then immediately switch on (BOOT) again.
The origin of the term is a bit wierd it comes from "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps", because the computer is starting itself.

What the term Reboot means is to end your session while on line as well as to turn off your computer (PC)
This is critical for some slow systems as what it will regain the memory resources as well.
You know how you turn off your PC by clicking on your Start Tab in the lower left corner and the Pop Up window has you then choose a option of your choice. Being: Log Off or Turn Off Computer. You most likely click on Turn Off Computer and then sellect the next option: Stand By, Turn Off, Restart or Cancel. By sellecting any of the first 3 options (Stand By, Turn Off or Restart) you will begin the Reboot Cycle. By sellecting stand by you just need to move your mouse. If you have sellected Turn off you have ended the whole cycle and will then have to restart your PC. If you just want a fast Reboot to clear and regain the ststem resources you will then just Click the Restart Tab. Yoour PC will turn off and then turn it self back on again. If you were loged on to the Internet, you will have to Log On again.
Now you know. Hope this has helped you and others as well.

Go to your start button in the left hand corner of your computer and click. Then click shut down tab. From that tab click restart.
Rebooting is when you restart your computer and start over. This is sometimes necessary when your system gets clogged up.
PS: The term boot your computer is a play on the term "like a kick in the ***"

Reboot a computer means restart the PC this day.
Just press the reset switch or hold down the power button until it is off and press 'on' again.

To reboot is to turn off your computer and restart it altogether. This is usually required after downloading automatic updates (you will be prompted if this is necessary, in which case simply close all programmes and restart) or after downloading certain programmes. Again, the computer will tell you if you need to reboot.
Sometimes, if your computer is acting up, rebooting solves the problem too.

A REBOOT means simply restarting a computer. If you connect a new hardware e.g. a new printer, and install its driver (software), it will be necessary to restart the computer so that the new driver will take effect, the computer will recognise the new component and begin to communicate with it.

Reboot is the same thing as restarting it. If you have a Windows program (like xp) you go to start and click restart. It is done after you install new programs or after an update.
