I've had great success with this trap in my house and I assume it would work in a car, too:
http://veganstore.com/index.html?stocknumber=266
It’s also available for $2 cheaper here (although I prefer to buy it from the other place since I’m not a big fan of PETA):
https://www.petacatalog.org/prodinfo.asp?number=HP200
I've caught over ten mice with it so far and it can be used over and over indefinitely. Or, you can try making the free homemade humane trap described here (this article also contains a recipe for homemade mice repellent):
http://www.helpinganimals.com/wildlife_livingWithMice.asp
If you do live trap mice, please be sure to check the traps in your car several times a day and release the mice promptly, approximately a mile away from your home. It is much more cruel to allow a mouse in a live trap to slowly starve to death than to kill it quickly with a snap trap. When you release the mice, do it in an area with some sheltering bushes or plants.
The absolute cruelest traps are glue traps. Mice have been known to gnaw off their own limbs and tear off their skin in an effort to escape, as they starve or dehydrate to death or suffocate in the glue. It can take three to five days for them to die. Poison isn't any better, as the mice die slowly and painfully from internal bleeding. It can take up to a week for them to die, and then they smell as they rot wherever they hid.
It doesn't take much extra effort to be kind. You will feel better and so will the mice! Good luck!

Clean out the front end of the vehicle - where the passengers and driver ride. You don't have to get too crazy about the cleaning, but don't leave trash, paper, etc. Maybe take it to a car wash - that will be just fine. Now, place a single container of D-con for mice and rats (available at discount and hardware and home stores) poison into your trunk. They're very small and all ready to use. Make sure the package won't be able to slide around and then close the trunk. Now, just watch for the bodies - they'll appear with 48-hours. Hope this helps!

All moth balls will do is make your car stink, and not discourage the mice (or rats, or squirrels, or any other pest).
Mice especially will only travel a certain distance from their primary food source. They nest and eat within a certain perimeter. Find the food source and eliminate it. Do you have dog dish within perhaps 20 feet of your car? Move it away. If it is something that can't be moved, like a fruit tree, don't park there. Be diligent about removing potential food sources for mice, and they will leave.
A mouse will eat almost anything, but prefer cereal grains, seeds, or sweet material. They require very little water, obtaining most of their water needs from their food. Mice can consume large quantities of stored seed and grains from farmers and granaries.

clean your car and maybe put mice poisin in it mice usually get in cars that are parked alot and yes moth balls can be used to repell mice, possums, and raccoons. but people usually put them in there garages and sheds not in there cars cause the odor. but if you wanted to go that route you could.

GET A NICE BIG PEBBLE THE SIZE OF A FLAT TENNIS BALL,PLACE THE PEBBLE ON THE FLOOR OF THE CAR,PUT SOME GROUND PEPPER ON THE PEBBLE, EASY.
HOW DOES IT WORK I HEAR YOU SAY ---- WELL.
THE MOUSE COMES TO SMELL THE PEPPER AND INSTANTLY SNEEZES AND KNOCKS IT'S HEAD ON THE PEBBLE,TOP THE PEPPER UP AS REQUIRED.
