I'm going to assume that your friend is seeing an oncologist since s/he's been tested for leukemia.

My husband went through something like this several years ago. The doc asked him if 1) he'd had a long-term infection or cold; 2) he'd taken ibuprofen, because it can mess up some people's blood; and 3) if he'd been exposed to any toxic chemicals.

They wanted to remove his spleen. He elected to go on Prednisone (a steroid) instead. It didn't work. He was healed by a miracle in answer to prayer...

BUT, in retrospect, we realized for several weeks he HAD been using artist's markers that contain toluene. His liver was fighting for his life and over-producing anti-bodies.

If we knew then what we know now, we would have done a liver cleanse. Milk Thistle seed extract is good for this. Usually it is combined with Burdock Root or Red Clover, to cleanse the blood, and Dandelion Root to cleanse the kidneys (because much of the liver toxins are going to have to pass through there). While cleansing, it is good to take a fiber supplement to absorb toxins and keep the bowels moving freely. Also a fish oil supplement. And drink lots of water.

Renew Life makes a good cleanse called Liver Detox. There are others.

Oh, bless your heart. That is really irritating. The high white count means your child is fighting an infection which is a good thing because they are like little tiny troops that attack and destroy infections. Your doctor sounds (excuse me) like a quack. Sorry, my opinion. Find another one. If your child has diarrhea now, take him fast to the E.R. especially if he is still running fever. Don't use that doctor anymore. Also, in the ER describe symptoms and ask for a stool culture. Relate to them what you were told. "going on too long for him to be sick" is a horrible stupid remark for the doctor to make. Your child was not treated properly. I am so very, very sorry. Did they even bother to tell you what blood culture was taken? Get all of your child's medical records (you can do that legally, although you may have to pay around $15 to get them for the processing fee, etc.) and take them to another doctor of your choice. You need to know exactly what your child was treated for and what treatment was used. This is an edit: To the person identified as new here. Please read her statement again. She mentioned that she had seen the doctor. otherwise your response was good. God bless you.

High WBC count can also indicate an infection somewhere.

Seek medical advice. Get a good exam. This needs proper treatment and expert guidance.
