When I was pregnant with twins, I was worried, because every time I woke up at night, I'd be on my back, even though I initially went to sleep on my side. The DR said (as Memphis Kitten said also) that I would feel symptoms like lightheadedness long before the baby had any ill effects. So if you feel ok, then the baby's ok. As you get further along, sleeping on your back might just be uncomfortable and you will choose another position. Pillows between the knees, as others have suggested, are really helpful. Good luck!

Yes, you can sleep on your back. I do, and I'm 21 weeks as well. People tend to overreact about this. When your uterus gets bigger, it will press down on the Vena Cava which is an artery that carries blood to both you and the baby. If this is being compressed, you would feel lightheaded and short of breath automatically changing positions in your sleep. It's best to stay off your back in the third trimester. At 21 weeks, your uterus is not heavy enough to compress this artery.

No the main issue is it can but more pressure on your back and can cause alot of back pain. If that happens then the best position would be on your side somewhat with a pillow in between your legs. If sleeping on your back is comfortable go for it.

It is bad to sleep on your back because it will reduce the blood flow to your baby. However I slept on my back most of the time because I couldn't sleep on my sides it just wasn't comfortable. My doctor said to try sleeping on my sides but if I ended up on my back it was ok. Good Luck!

around the 5 month (20 weeks) back sleeping is not recommended. however if sleeping on your sides makes you uncomfortable buy a pregnancy pillow and it may make you more comfortable.
back sleeping after the uterus grows bigger around 20 weeks puts pressure on a main artery. this can cause a slight drop in your blood pressure and the baby's blood pressure.

Sleep in whatever position you feel comfortable. You need all the sleep you can get. Baby will soon let you know if s/he doesn't like it.

Yes, it can be. Reason is it cuts off circulation to the baby and sometimes to you.
Sleep on your side. It's much safer.
