I've always assumed it was another term for Jukebox mentioned later in the line
"I love rock and roll, put another dime in the jukebox baby."
. I wondered the other day though if it might actually be a real machine for demolishing buildings and he's a hunky builder. The problem here though is why is there a jukebox on a building sight

It's Record Machine. He's standing next to the Jukebox - ie the record machine.

The words are actually...

"I saw him standing there by the record machine'

Its talking about the record machine, as in the jukebox..that plays records.

yes its a jukebox.
"record machine" is the qoute.
see way back in primitive history us old timers listened to "records".
you may have seen one at an archaeological dig.
hip hop turntablists still use them for novelty purposes.
