Bad idea the whole point of the chase was to limit down the drivers. If they keep this up half the field will make the chase in a few years and it will be a moot point.

I think that allowing 12 in is a pretty good thing. Most of the major sports have expanded their play off systems including the NFL, and MLB. Like Nascar there was a lot of criticism of the move, but once it happened there hasn't been a lot of talk.
It seems to me the only league that has too many teams in the playoffs is the NBA. Their playoff system is so inclusive that it renders the regular season almost meaningless.
I think that if Nascar expands the field in the chase to 15 that might be too many, but 12 seems to fit pretty well.
