An old baseball umpire Marty Springstead used to come into a restaurant i work in all the time. He gave us a signed autographed picture and we hung it next to all the softball teams and just for fun teams we support. Very nice man.

Yes, my Dad grew up with a well know umpire who lived in our neighborhood when I was young. He and my father have both passed away now. I remember being so impressed that this man got to watch baseball everyday for a living. How lucky was he...?
We also had a minor league team in our town years ago, and I met a lot of future greats in the game 'cause Dad would take us there every chance he could, we just loved baseball. The team has been gone for years but the memories will always be there.

Why talk to the umpire? Talking to a player and getting their autograph would be funner.
