I want to install pre-finished solid wood floors in my home. The kind that can be sanded and repolyurethaned again in years to come. Not the thin laminate ones. What is the best brand to buy?

Go to one of the hardware stores like Lowes' or home depot. They should be able to help you out. Or you could research it on the internet

It's tough to recommend a brand when it's Mother Nature's work.
All I know is that I would consider maple floors, as they are just beautiful.

Talk to the most experienced person (they should have some gray hair and have worked there for a while) at all of your major home centers like Lowes, Home Depot, etc. and don't forget to check with your local lumber yard, they sometimes can surprise you! Good luck.

There are many different brands. I avoid those home centers that others here have recommended because I've found through experience that they sell "seconds" that have flaws. Stick with the flooring outfits. I have a Worldwide Flooring place near me that I send my clients to. The sales people are much more knowledgable then the vest people.

If you live in a more rural area, you may want to check out a saw mill. Where I live in Northern NY, there are mills that do the work right there and sell cheaper than those "big box" retailers. If that's not possible, try a local lumber yard as was mentioned before.

There's plenty of good brands. Most make several grades. The best are a full 3/4" thick. I also recommend choosing a style that does not have beveled edges, as they trap dirt.

Find out if there is a Habitat For Humanity lay-down yard near you. You can buy flooring cheap there.

Do you have any finish carpenter's skills ? you would be better off hiring a pro if you want a REAL hard wood floor.

I really like BellaWood. Great exotic woods, and beautiful finishes.
