You might need diapers most hospitals have them but some are the cheap kind and you may need wipes some hospitals have them kind that are real cheap and not that great they make a mess I brought a binky and bottle to for coming home ( I wanted to use my own bottles even tho they give you one in the hospital)

I packed a little differently the second time than with the first since I had a vaginal delivery this time instead of a c/s.

This time I brought:
bathrobe
socks (they don't like you wandering around in bare feet, I found out) or slippers
extra pair or two of comfortable pants, because when you sneeze/cough, etc. you pee your pants
pj's
cough drops or throat lozenges as the air can be very dry
plenty of reading material
cell phone - although in some places you might not be able to use it
camera
outfit for baby to come home in
hair tie if you have long hair so you can tie it back when you're in labor
snacks for both you and your partner/husband/whatever
boppy pillow if you plan on nursing
calling card if you need to make long distance phone calls to friends, relatives from your hospital room
shower stuff and anything else that makes you feel comfortable when you're at home
hand lotion

Leave your jewelry, expensive stuff at home! Hospital should provide mongo pads for postpartum and those mesh underwear, which are great, IMO. Also they provide diapers and t-shirts for baby to wear while they're in the hospital.

Congrats!

I brought PJs, slippers and a ton of other stuff that I didn't need. The hospital provided the best undies and pads I ever found. This time around I'd pack for hubby and pack myself a change of clothes (mataernity), and for the new baby. The hosptial had toothbrush and toothpaste and all the toilettries.

For you:socks or slippers, an outfit to wear home, nursing bras( regular bras are very hard to nurse in, trust me, personal experience,i had an IV in me still the next day so i could not take it off), toiletries, pads if you don't want to wear the hospitals, but they give you the big ones so you don't soak through them as quickly, underwear- but the hospital has the net ones so you don't stain yours, a robe if you want to be up and walking around, your own pillow your camera, xtra batteries, baby book, money for food(the hospital food is gross!), things to keep you busy if you don't plan on having a lot of guests, cell phone, list of who to call and phone charger hubby: clothes, socks, pillow Baby: outfit to bring home in and if wantd, another outfit for pictures, carseat and carseat cover if cold out, recieving blanket, hat When the nurse brings your baby in your room in the bassinet, take the diapers out of the drawer and put them in your bag and when they take the baby back to the nursery, then they will refill it and take those, then you don not have to buy that many newborn diapers:)

Here's what I brought and used
Slippers or thick socks
underwear (lots)
card games/books
clothes for the new baby, blanket, diapers, nail clippers or file (the hospital will not provide this)
clothes for you to go home in
toothbrush/toothpaste

of all the stuff I took, my own pillow was the best thing. It was comfortable AND comforting to have it.

Also, if there's ever a "next time," I'd take my own nursing pillow. The hospital where I had my baby had weird, awkward nursing pillows. Not great when you're just starting out!

Good luck with everything!

i had pads, clothes for me and my baby, make up, lip conditioner, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, a portable DVD player and DVDs. I also had books. we didnt buy diapers until she was born because the doctors didnt do the last ultrasound so we didnt know how big she was. she was only 5lbs 8oz. her clothes didnt even fit so daddy had to go get her new clothes the next morning.

Well, the only thing I used from my hospital bag was the camera and the clothes I wore home. The hospital has everything else.

The basics that you mentioned, of course. I would also include my favorite perfume, some pretty hair barrettes for my hair like the Michelle Roy flowers or Tarina Tarentino clips and Bobbi Brown shimmer brick for an incredible glow to my face.
