The girl put some kind of drug into the crown prince's wine before she told him that she wasn't going to go with him. Then she ran out and the prince chased her into the stable. He was so drugged that he fell to the ground in the stable. She poured some fake blood on herself, took a few of the jewels off of the prince's sword and planted one on her dress and one in the straw and then planted her locket in the straw. She got on her horse and slumped over, riding out looking like she was mortally wounded. When people were out searching for her she laid in the water, and the magician came and "found" her. The doctor was in on the plan (he was the same person, but in disguise, who the inspector saw walking with the magician making plans to run away with the girl) The girl was not really dead as she laid in the carriage - we see a short clip of the magician giving her something and her waking up (she probably took something to slow her heart beat down to make it look like she was dead)

Then she went on the train with the doctor, and the magician followed after her, after he successfully ruined the crown prince, and caused him to kill himself.

Eisenheim the Illusionist had already plan this operation about faking death of girl inorder to free her from the crown prince. It was expected when he was seen talking to an old man in train station.
The girl had taken some sort of medicine so that her pulse would stop for few minutes inorder to fake her death. After the policeman had checked her. She was given an antidote or something like that to make her alive by the old man who was faking himself as the doctor, who actually was the old man seen in train station and then he only hid the girl with all the money given by the illusionist.
The part of how he managed to create images of dead person which was trick is not shown to keep the secret of the magic, like the logic behind the magic of orange tree.

SPOILER!!!!! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN"T SEEN THE MOVIE!!!!

The girl was in on the plan to fake her death (obviously), so when she went to the castle to leave her fiancee, she planted the jewels and things to make it look like he had killed her. After she left the castle (looking dead on horseback), she went into hiding. I'm not quite sure where she was hidden, but she had to be near enough to be able to participate in the shows where her "ghost" would appear.
When they found her body, she had taken a potion to look like she was dead (kind of like in Romeo and Juliet), so that they could move her body and get her into hiding safely. The "doctor" was in on it too, as he was the one to pronounce her dead and take the body away.
Oh, and I don't think they planned on the prince killing himself...they just wanted to have him locked up for her murder, and his suicide was a complete surprise.
I hope this cleared some stuff up for you :)

i watched it twice and i fell asleep on it twice...I loved it and it was very interesting but I still fell asleep. I think he gave her some magic death faking potion and she hid in his house and he was just worried that they would get found out like they once did when they were younger and that's how he could've hid his emotions about her fake death (nervousness-sadness). "His best magic trick ever"

I just never got how that guy stabbed her and she died and was in the water thing. but hey, that's movies for you...fantacy

Basically from the time the girl told him that she would run away with him, everything after that was a con.
