Hi. Your son, at his age of 9 months right now should be drinking mainly from a bottle still. He should not be dependant on a sippy cup until age 1. You can try giving him a sippy every once and a while with some watered down, juice or even some formula, but do not force him. Let him get aquainted with it. If you force him to drink from it, he's going to resent it even more! Once he's about a year old, start putting ONLY water in his bottles, and his milk and watered down juice in the sippy. He will realize there is better stuff in the cup than in his bottles. He may still need a full bottle of milk once a day (it's best to give this bottle in the morning), but do not give him any more than that, otherwise you will have a harder time switching him! Good Luck with your little one!!

how old is he now? my only suggestions are these....
1 Keep trying
2 Don't stress on it, it'll happen
3 Remeber that he won't be drinking from a bottle when he starts school
4 Some babies take longer to pick up on things than others (my 4 month old hasn't even thought of rolling over yet- doc says he's too fat for that)
5 Make it into a game or sing a silly song like "I'm a little teapot" and when you get to the end try to give him a drink from the cup. Most kids will participate with anything they find fun.
6 Try to find one of the sippy cups with the soft spout on it. They aren't that much different from a bottle nipple and are a lot easier to drink from than the hard spouts. Babies have to learn a different way to suck to get anything from a cup and sometimes they give up when nothing comes out the first few tries.

how old is your son now? since you started at a really young age of 4 months, he may not like it now bc of that.
My daughter is 7 months and i would never think of giving my daughter a sippy now bc the liquid flows A LOT faster than a bottle, and she has trouble with juice from a bottle.
If he is under 11 months, I would stick with a bottle...than when he is about 1 move on to the sippy, that is when there mouths are ready.

what you could do is replace all the bottles in the house with sippy cups because your trying to introduce this new thing to your child to use going back and forth with a bottle can take you 5 steps back rather than forward cause your child could see you as giving s/he something they know and like giving it to them and taking away then giving it back can frustrate a kid to the point where they will not want the new cup for they will fight for there bottle.. i suggest trying the sippy cup all day no bottles or bottles at night only your choice in the end Im sure you will be fine it all just takes time good luck..

First thing is does he know how it works? I have 8 1/2 month old and he didn't want to do anything with his sippy but hit it on the tray of his high chair cause it made noise. I took a little sweet tea and put in it. If it is a spill proof one it seems to be a bit harder for them.I sucked a little into the spout and then let him taste it. That was how I finally got him to use it. He still has a little trouble but he likes it much better now.

Throw all bottle's out if your son is 1yr or older. Keep trying with sippy cups, hopefully you'll find one he likes. Or try the sippy cups with a straw. One of mine didn't like the sippy cups , but loved the straw's. Good luck!

My son is the same way. He started at four months and now at 10 he doesn't want anything to do with the sippy cup. I went to Target and found one that had a soft straw. He loves it!! And, he drinks from it all the time.

My daughter didn't really take a interest in a sippy cup until right before she turned one. We would just keep one available at all times with water in it in case it peak her interest. Also, sometimes you have to buy several different types of sippy cups until your child finds one they feel comfortable with. My daughter likes the Nuby cups. The have a soft rubber tip that has a built in vent. They don't have to suck as hard as other cups. Good luck.

depending on how old your child is ...
Our son we just took his bottles and put them away, out of sight out of mind! Then we gave him all of his milk and any drink in a sippy cup. It took him less then a day to get the hang of it, I actually think it was much harder on us as parents then it was on him. I had given him a sippy cup prior to that, with juice and water in it, but once his yummy milk was in his cup, he made it work.
Our son was a bit older then some of my friends when they switched their children, Hunter was about a year and a half.
