No, he was stopped becuse he was driving and chatting on his mobile, against the law, then he started acting suspiciously, so they searched his car, found a load of money, he gave them a false name and address, so when they found out who he really was they searched his house and found £500,000. He has now been arrested and charged wiht money laundering. He was NOT stopped because he had a load of money in his car, they didn't just go up to him and search his car. He was breaking the law, he then started acting suspiciously so they went on. If he ahd jsut said, sorry officer, I won't do it again, he probably would have been let off with a caution. You do need to ask a question based on the FACTS in the news, rahter than what you read it as.

I think you need to read the article in more depth, there is more to it than you appear to realise...unless you agree with people using a hand held phone whilst driving, and giving the police false information which leads them to make further enquiries, which leads to the discovery of a huge sum of money, which in turn leads the police to believe there is money laundering involved.

Have you read the whole article?
If the guy had nothing to hide why give a false name etc?
All that money found hidden in shoe box's etc asks some question.
Can't see it being life savings myself!

Having large sums of cash on your person is bound to attract attention, especially in these days of 'plastic'.
Stash the cash in a decent building society account and watch the green grow.

Err.. the article clearly states "suspected money laundering".

Would a normal person with real money be going around with hundreds of thousands of pounds in a carrier bag?

Crumpets anyone ???...A little cricket ???......Probable cause....suspicious circumstances.....Let law enforcement do their job. They aren`t all evil, for the most part. That`s what I think.

Anyone who sits in their car with a huge stash of money is either a lunatic or a crook. Either way, they should not be left on the street.
