I had my 38 week check up yesterday, I am actually going to be 39 weeks tomorrow. I had a ultrasound on Friday, and the doc who did my ultrasound said that my baby was already over 8 lbs. and she was measuring at 40 weeks 2 days. So I asked my obgyn to check the results, so she did, She said she is going to have me induced on Friday... well as she continued with my exam she checked my cervix (as usual this far in my pregnancy) and she said my cervix was still closed and it was way up there, then she really began hurting me, almost as if she was trying to pull my baby out. I wasn't sure if she striped my membranes or not. I hope she did because I am really frightened about being induced. Has this ever happened to anyone? Does it sound like she stripped my membranes? If so, how long does it take to start labor, thats if it is gonna work for me.

First of all, why did you not ask your doctor what she was doing? Every patient has the right to know what is being done to them during the course of care, and the option to refuse part or all of a treatment. The healthcare provider also has a responsbility to explain what they are doing so that the patient understands.

When the doctor "strips the membranes", they are breaking the amniotic sac. There should be a release of fluid from the sac, and you should not be allowed to go home and wait several days. As a matter of fact, one of the reasons to induce labor is that the membranes ruptured, and labor has not started within 12-24 hours. Risk of infection begins to increase at that point. I think maybe she was just trying to measure the "os" or the cervical opening. I think the best thing for you to do is call your doctor, and ask exactly what she was doing, and what to expect next.

She probably stripped your membranes. Why didn't you ask her what she was doing? Having your membranes stripped hurts like hell, and won't start your labor. I had mine stripped 3 times and still had to be induced.

Im not sure what she did since Ive never had my membranes stripped but, I would think she would have TOLD you if thats what she was going to do rather than just DO it.

She was probably trying to see if it was tilting. Mine did with my son and yes it hurts likehell. I dont think she was stripping the membranes at all.

Speak up. When someone is hurting you, even if it's a Dr. say so and tell her to stop. You need to have a serious talk with your Dr. I don't know if I would trust her to deliver my baby.
