I am going to have the big ultrasound today, where they tell you the sex of the baby. I just wanted to know what happens during this ultrasound. Some people have told me they do lots of other things. Also, I am having a technition do it, not my ob, I really dont know why I guess my doctor just does that. So does that mean he wont tell me what the sex is until my doctor knows? I am so excited to find out but I dont want to have to wait longer.

In my doctors office, the tech performs the ultrasound as well (she is specifically trained to do it) and she gives the doctor the printout! I just had mine Monday (I am 18 weeks) and during the ultrasound it will be uncomfortable because you have to drink a lot of water an hour beforehand and you can't go to the bathroom (and I am sure you know by now how uncomfortable it is to "hold" it) the fuller your bladder is, the more clear the ultrasound photo. The tech will take photos of all of the babies organs, body parts, etc...and if you are lucky, you can find out the sex. My little one had its legs crossed so we did not get to find out :- ( It is a wonderful experience and you will love seeing your baby tumble about, and maybe even chew on its fingers-like mine was :- )

In the ultrasound they just take measurements on baby.. Head, chest.. water around baby..etc. I have always had a tech doing it and not my doctors. As for trying to find out the sex.. the tech will tell you least i have had no problems with them telling me. GL!

if you are going to have you US that tells you the sex of the baby then, the reason your doc isnt doing the US is because the tech is looking at your babys heart and brain and all that stuff to make sure everything is working right and if they can see the sex of your baby, the tech will ask you if you want to know, if you dont then they wont tell you just write it down on your chart and and thats it, if you do want to know then the tech will tell you right then and there you dont wait for the doc to find out. well thats how it worked for me, good luck. hope you find out.

First the technician will check the babys organs, height, weight, spine, etc.
Then you'll get to see the baby!
If the technician is able to determine the sex of the baby, s/he probably will. The technicians told me the sex of the baby at all of my ultrasounds :)

Good Luck!!!!

The only thing that was different about the second ultrasound from my first, was that the baby was bigger, so things were clearer. The tech told us what the baby was.

doctors don't do the ultrasound. they send you somewhere else where an ultrasound technician does it for you.
he will ask you if you want to know or not.. he or she will then tell you.. any other questions as far as if they see something wrong with the baby can not be discussed with you. Your doc will discuss that with you.

good luck!

They will take lots of measurements and look at some of the main veins in the u. cord and the heart.
They will tell you the sex there - your doctor doesn't care two hoots what sex your baby is I wouldn't have thought!!

basicly you just lay on your back feeling like you gotta pee and then some one squeezes the slimmy stuff on your belly and moves the what ever you call it around getting measurements and images of the baby, they will look at the babies heart, lungs, head, spine, tummy and the placent some times they will look at the babies bladder its really kind of neat watching them do the ultra sound but it dont hurt or anything its kind of like when the dr listens to the heart beat with the droppler thing.

The technician will tell you, that's how it's done at my hospital too. Your ob will then review the results just to make sure everything looks okay.
